'LF' Spitfires had engine superchargers optimized for low level flight and it was found that removing the wing tips (which could easily be done in the field) allowed a faster role rate at those lower altitudes. Confusingly, not all LF Spitfires flew with 'clipped' wings, and not all clipped wing Spitfires are LF models. A captured FW-190 was found to outperform the then current Mk V Spitfire in most important repects which led to the hasty redesign of Mk Vs to MK IXs with a more powerful engine which went some way to addressing the deficit.

«Speculating on the Blue is a site specific installation conceived by Flaka Haliti for the Kosovo Pavilion at the Biennale Arte. With this work she addresses the topos of borders that are not only part of her personal history but also our everyday global reality. The artist specifically examines the features of the borderland, often deserted and seemingly decaying within a short period of time. Barriers are manmade manifestations of political decisions made about territories, which are often drawn with little regard for natural and ethnical boundaries. Haliti aims at de-militarizing and de-familiarizing the aesthetic regime that is embodied by physical borders through the creation of a counter image. In doing so she transforms the former into a sign of optimism. Her approach is one of recontextualizing global politics through disconnection from its regime of appearance. The metaphor of the horizon, simultaneously emblem of possibility and enigma of our limitations is woven into the fabric of our past and present.
By drawing on the universal meaning of this metaphor, the artist removes the image economy of the horizon from any specific spatial-temporal context and speculates on its validity as an eternal truth.»

On the tevee,President Obama addressed a joint session of Congress, while at exactly the same time, on the computer (espn360.com), 17-year-old Melanie Oudin of Marietta, Ga. tried to extend her miraculous run into the semifinals of the U.S. Open. That was not to be. President Obama fared a lot better. The early polls showed a significant jump in support for his health care reform program after the speech. He spoke with conviction and some passion. It made him a lightning rod for the crazies. A Republican congressman thre protocol out the window and shouted "liar!" at the president of the united States in a joint session of Congress. He must have thought he was in one of those town hall meetings...
As for me, I would have preferred single-payer. If not that, I would have preferred a strong public option, and even if we get a public option, it's not likely to be strong. But in the end, I don't care. I think it's important to seize this moment and pass universal coverage that doesn't let insurance companies deny coverage for pre-existing conditions and other lame pretexts for profit maximization. It's time to pass what our very imperfect Congress has cobbled together. It's far from perfect, but we can fix it later. The building on the left is a luxurious hotel called "The Address". This is from where I took some of my Burj Dubai shots (see in the comment box below).
I wish I had composed this shot differently, with the hotel more towards the center, but that's the best vantage point I could get...
To create this composition, I shot the buildings at ISO 200 f/2.8 (1 to 13 sec bracketed shots, then digital blending). For the fountains, I really needed a fast shutter speed, so I used ISO 800, f/2.8 and was able to get 1/80 sec shutter speed. Then I did the final composite of the buildings and the fountains.

This photo has a few issues and I had to address the ghost effect of the long exposure (transparency of the fox). I used a brush to repair it a little. I just couldn't discard this shot.

Besides baseball games, it has also been the site of many other sporting and cultural events including professional football games for the Boston Redskins, Boston Yanks, and the Boston Patriots; concerts; soccer and hockey games (such as the 2010 NHL Winter Classic); and political and religious campaigns.
On March 7, 2012 (Fenway's centennial year), the park was added to the National Register of Historic Places. It is a landmark at the end of the Boston Irish heritage trail. Former pitcher Bill Lee has called Fenway Park "a shrine". It is a pending Boston Landmark, which will regulate any further changes to the park. The ballpark is considered to be one of the most well-known sports venues in the world and a symbol of Boston.
In 1911, while the Red Sox were still playing on Huntington Avenue Grounds, owner John I. Taylor purchased the land bordered by Brookline Avenue, Jersey Street, Van Ness Street and Lansdowne Street and developed it into a larger baseball stadium known as Fenway Park. Taylor claimed the name Fenway Park came from its location in the Fenway neighborhood of Boston, which was partially created late in the nineteenth century by filling in marshland or "fens", to create the Back Bay Fens urban park. However, given that Taylor's family also owned the Fenway Realty Company, the promotional value of the naming at the time has been cited as well.
Like many classic ballparks, Fenway Park was constructed on an asymmetrical block, with consequent asymmetry in its field dimensions. The park was designed by architect James E. McLaughlin, and the General Contractor was the Charles Logue Building Company.
The first game was played April 20, 1912, with mayor John F. Fitzgerald throwing out the first pitch and Boston defeating the New York Highlanders, 7–6 in 11 innings. Newspaper coverage of the opening was overshadowed by continuing coverage of the Titanic sinking five days earlier.
In June 1919, a rally supporting Irish Independence turned out nearly 50,000 supporters to see the President of the Irish Republic, Éamon de Valera, and was allegedly the largest crowd ever in the ballpark.
The park's address was originally 24 Jersey Street. In 1977, the section of Jersey Street nearest the park was renamed Yawkey Way in honor of longtime Red Sox owner Tom Yawkey, and the park's address was 4 Yawkey Way until 2018, when the street's name was reverted to Jersey Street in light of current Red Sox ownership distancing itself from Mr. Yawkey due to his history of racism (the Red Sox were the last team in Major League Baseball to integrate). The address is now 4 Jersey Street.
