Finally acknowledging that I can grow roses - it has taken decades! These flowers are 5" in diameter.
This image was taken in February of this year right after the Swallow-tailed Kites returned from their wintering grounds in South America! It is hard to believe that most have finished nesting and are now teaching the young Kites how to hunt as they begin preparations for the return trip to South American in another month!! They are one of my favorite birds!! Hope you like the image! Thank you as always for all of the favorites and comments!!

Happy Friday everyone!! I am happy for the Weekend, I though we would be getting ready for a storm!! Nice when the weatherpersons are wrong! This is a breeding season Little Blue Heron that I photographed in some beautiful early morning light!! What a fun day it is to share with these guys!! This Photo was taken earlier this year as this first year Roseate Spoonbill began to land right in front of me!! First year Spoonbills do not have the bright colors of the full adult. The Tamaracks are acknowledging the season in glorious colour now, our forests are dripping with gold. They have turned a bit later than usual - all the other trees have already dropped their leaves on the ground save for a stubborn few.
This particular Tamarack is in our backyard ... we transplanted it about 10 years ago and it is thriving in its new location. My American friends may know the tree by another name - the Eastern or Black Larch.

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.
I just had to use this lovely dress that just screams Jane Austen and her beloved character, Elizabeth Bennet.

Terrace Falls are located near Lawson and Hazelbrook, small towns approximately 90 kilometers (1.5 hour drive) from Sydney.
Falls are accessible by the short 800 meter walk from the bottom of Terrace Falls Road, or from the other side, Valley Road Hazelbrook. There are now gates on both sides to
stop the dickheads that either dump cars or rip up the unsealed fire trail
The walking track starts approximately half way between these two gated. There are two entry points along the track and it just depends from which Road you access it from.
The track itself is a beautiful example of temperate rainforest with many flowering native mountain plants, fungi, birds and sunning reptiles. Don't forget to look out for the colourful freshwater crustacean, locally known as the yabbie!!!
This walk has come rather rich and lush moss and lichens, not to mention the wonderful tree ferns!
Take your time and scamper up and down rocks, stop, listen and just chill to experience a true Blue Mountains experience!!! You might even get lucky as I did and witness the majestic Lyrebird.

Everglades Snail Kites are a highly endangered bird in Florida! They are now referred to as Snail Kites and get their name for the fact that they feed almost exclusively on Apple Snails! They are a victim of poor water management, including water quality, high water levels, extremely low water levels. The water that is of extremely poor quality is because of recycling of farm water!
We were luck enough to see these Snail Kites mating on one of our trips to STA 5 in the wonderful early morning light!! As always thanks for looking and we will see you on Thursday!!

First Light! What a treat it was to see and photography this endangered Parrot! The last stronghold for Hyacinth Macaws is in the Brazilan Pantanal! I was lucky to see and take may photographs of this amazing species in the Wild!! Judy Lynn and Gary Malloch put together a great trip!

The intelligence of Crows is well-acknowledged. I have often observed a "murder" of crows seemingly working cooperatively. It often seems that one or more of them acts as a sentinel, loudly proclaiming when a potential danger is near (like mistakenly taking me as danger when I raise my camera). As the crow "caws" loudly, other crows nearby in the trees respond. Those on the ground feeding then take flight. Maybe I am reading too much into this observation, but it has happened often.

Ocean Cement is the oldest and largest tenant on Granville Island. Established on the Island in 1917.
Painted by OSGEMEOS, which means "the twins," Brazilian twin brothers Gustavo and Otávio Pandolfo. They're known for their public art, transforming buildings and walls into colourful spray-painted characters.
The Vancouver project is the duo's biggest to date.

Marine Garage has been a long time fixture on Moncton Street in Steveston. While the pumps remain, today it is solely a mechanics garage under the name of Seppo's Automotive.
Marine Garage is an Art Deco style building that has a long history in providing fuel and service to Steveston's residents. It originally opened as Walker's Emporium in the early 1900s and was one of the few buildings that survived the fire of 1918 (City of Richmond Archives)

Today, we can only imagine the sights of the heavily loaded fishing vessels tied up alongside this pier, and the hardworking employees bustling the catch of the day, up and down the pier.

Point Roberts is a pene-exclave of the United States on the southernmost tip of the Tsawwassen Peninsula, south of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The area, which had a population of 1,314 at the 2010 census, is reached by land by traveling 25 mi (40 km) through Canada. It is a census-designated place (CDP) in Whatcom County, Washington with a post office, and a ZIP Code of 98281. Direct sea and air connections with the U.S. are available across Boundary Bay.
Point Roberts was created when the United Kingdom and the United States settled the Pacific Northwest American-Canadian border dispute in the mid-19th century with the Oregon Treaty. Both parties agreed the 49th parallel would delineate both countries' territories, but they overlooked the small area that incorporates Point Roberts (south of the 49th parallel). Questions about ceding the territory to the United Kingdom and later to Canada have been raised since its creation but its status has remained unchanged.

Family acknowledging Alpha....Grey Wolves at Aspen Valley Wildlife Sanctuary in Rosseau, Ontario. The wolves were surrendered from a roadside zoo in Quebec and cannot be returned to the wild.

Lavenham in Suffolk is widely acknowledged as the best example of a medieval wool town in England.
In Tudor times, Lavenham was said to be the fourteenth wealthiest town in England, despite its small size. Its fine timber-framed buildings and beautiful church, built on the success of the wool trade, make it a fascinating place to explore today.
Although Lavenham goes back to Saxon times, it is best known as a medieval wool town. It was granted its market charter in 1257 and started exporting its famous blue broadcloth as far afield as Russia.
In the 14th century Edward III encouraged the English weaving industry and Lavenham began to prosper. However in the late 16th century Dutch refugees in Colchester began weaving a lighter, cheaper and more fashionable cloth and the woollen trade in Lavenham began to fail.
Most of the buildings in Lavenham today date from the 15th century, many of these were never altered due to the fall of the weaving industry. Consequently the town is still very much on the same scale as it must have been in the 15th century.
When we acknowledge that daylight is passing and sunset arrives in the truest of beauty a sense of peace overtakes us. The day was long and now we welcome a good nights rest in preparation for a new day. Gratitude and Kindness were a part of today and will be part of tomorrow’s sunrise.

Do you remember the Mendelian laws of inheritance? We've learned them in school on the basis of how the eye colours of fruit flies (the notorious Drosophila Melanogaster) are inherited to further generations according to dominant or recessive characteristics, although Gregor Mendel himself conducted his groundbreaking genetic experiments with pea plants. Unfortunately, the significance of Mendel's laws was never truly understood or acknowledged in his lifetime (1822 – 1884). His studies, however, were rediscovered three decades later, at the turn of the 20th century, and, following their rediscovery, American biologist Thomas Hunt Morgan (1866 – 1945) began to experiment with Drosophila in his "Fly Room" at Columbia University. It was Morgan who discovered that genes are carried on chromosomes; he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 1933. Further Fly experiments (with a less successful outcome) were conducted by a certain Dr. Seth Brundle in 1986 (aka "The Fly"). So where exactly does my image come in here, you may have already asked yourself (if you haven't stopped reading my lengthy introduction long before – which I could totally understand). Well, during one of those numerous teaching experiments with fruit flies, which numerous generations of students have conducted ever since modern genetics became part of school curriculums, something must have gone very wrong. And who knows, maybe Dr. Seth "Brundlefly" Brundle himself had led one of those biology experiments? Experiments in which some dinosaur genes were mixed with those of an innocent fruit fly... Which resulted in the creation the biggest Drosophila the world has ever seen – the Olympic Brachosophila Megalogaster? Nonsense, of course, and you know it ;-) But doesn't this kaleidoscoped image of the Olympic stadium's interior (the roof, mostly, taken at a dutch angle) look just like an ultra close-up of a (fruit) fly's face? Not one that you'd like to see buzzing around your fruit bowl, that's for sure, but let's say that the other "third party genes" that were used in this crazy experiment came from a puppy. So this would be the friendliest, cuddliest giant dinosaur puppy fruit fly you'll ever come across :) OK, I'd rather stop before you start to believe that I was a part of those experiments as well ;-)

Drosophila Megalogaster – Schau mir in die Augen, Kleines :)
Ihr erinnert Euch doch bestimmt noch alle an die Mendelsche Vererbungslehre und die berühmte Drosophila Melanogaster mit ihren dominanten bzw. rezessiven Genen, die über die Vererbung der jeweiligen Augenfarbe entscheiden. Was wäre, wenn jemand bei einem der unzähligen Biologie-Experimente, die Generationen von Schülern mit Fruchtfliegen durchgeführt haben, nicht nur Fruchtfliegen(-Gene) gekreuzt, sondern evtl. noch ein paar Dinosaurier-Gene dazwischen gestreut hätte? Das Ergebnis könnte die größte Fruchtfliege sein, die die Welt je gesehen hat, die unglaubliche "Olympische Brachosophila Megalogaster" mit Augen so groß wie zwei Stadiondächer ;-) Nun ja, Ihr habt es schon erraten, dies ist eine kleine Spielerei mit einem Foto vom Olympiastadion für den Sliders Sunday. Ich hatte hier einfach aus Spaß mal eine Aufnahme mit schräger Perspektive gemacht und dabei überwiegend das offene Dach mit ins Bild genommen. Nachdem ich in Photoshop das Bild kopiert, gespiegelt und neu zusammengesetzt hatte, schaute mich plötzlich eine riesige (Frucht-)Fliege an ;-) Keine, die man gerne daheim um den Früchteteller herumschwirren sehen möchte, aber ich kann Euch beruhigen: Bei dem manipulierten Experiment kamen als "Drittanbieter-Gene" nicht nur die eines Dinosauriers hinzu, sondern auch die eines kuscheligen Welpen. Diese Fliege ist also gaaaanz lieb und verschmust und will bloß spielen ;-)

It manufacturers lattice boom crawler cranes with capacities ranging from 50 to 275 tons. March 1st - Happy St David's Day
Taken on a day trip to Bardsey Island (Flickr map doesn't acknowledge it) with my two sons in 2014.
Bardsey Island (Welsh: Ynys Enlli), known as the legendary Island of 20,000 Saints is located 1.9 miles (3.1 km) off the Llŷn Peninsula (seen here across the water) in the Welsh county of Gwynedd.
The Welsh name means "The Island in the Currents", while its English name refers to the "Island of the Bards", or possibly a reference to the Viking chieftain Barda.
At 179 hectares (440 acres; 0.69 sq mi) in area it is the fourth largest offshore island in Wales, with a population of only 11 (source: Wikipedia)

We are the sum total of millions of moments and cell changes and just thinking about the chances that you'll meet someone you can connect with on a deeper level should feel miraculous.
But humans also become careless with each other, even in long term relationships. Humans ignore each other or assume things about each other easily. Don't be careless. Remember, you can never truly know what another person feels or thinks without opening your heart and making both time and space.
In the last few minutes of your life, it's very unlikely you'll be thinking about an amazing tweet or Instagram post. I hope each one of you is remembering what it felt like to be caressed and loved and how it felt to show this tenderness towards others in return.

An ocean swell at high tide crashes over the mussel-covered rocks and into the famed maw of Thor's Well, Cape Perpetua, Oregon.
The Well is an incredible formation, and while standing and waiting for perfect waves, I realized how many elements must align in order to catch this sight at its most visually interesting - i.e., at sunset and at the highest of tides. First, the moon must be close to the earth (perigee) so that the high-tide is at its highest; second, that high-tide has to occur within an hour or two of sunset; and third, there must be clouds on the horizon in order for the sunset to be interesting. Perhaps needless to say, these elements did not all align for our visit. However, as the photo shows, we did get to see water pouring into the famed Well, and the simple fact that we managed to secure a parking spot around high-tide was a minor victory in itself.
The photographer's sleight of hand must be acknowledged here, because the framing cleverly omits the throng of people ringing the well and snapping selfies, and of course, one cannot see or hear the drone that was buzzing overhead. My dislike of drones borders on the irrational - I know they can be used to create beautiful photos from extraordinary perspectives, but somehow when I hear them noisily flitting overhead I immediately wish for them to vanish and leave me in peace. Fortunately for drone enthusiasts, my opinions matter very little!
For the Month of January, we wanted to acknowledge these two wonderful creatures that are Hopey and Beanie. These two have been with us since the very beginning, constantly around for rp, reaching out to new players, welcoming everyone, making sure noone felt cast aside or ignored. They help out wherever possible, give input and advice when needed, and try their best to constantly be active in both our discord and inworld. Both of you are so appreciated, I am so happy i've gotten to know you both better, and I'm not surprised in the slightest that you both were chosen as this month's roleplayers of the month!
