PHOTOGRAPH FREE FOR ONE TIME USE - PRINT AND ONLINE...EDINBURGH, UK - 9th November 2010: Environmental campaigners from Friends of the Earth Scotland today held up their own scales of justice outside the Scottish Parliament to demonstrate the enormous financial difficulties faced by people who want to legally challenge a decision affecting their environment. The environmental group submitted a petition containing over 1000 signatures to the Scottish Parliament urging the Scottish Government to ensure affordable and broad access to environmental justice. I am not sure how it took so long, but I finally signed up for the All Access Ship Tour on our recent cruise. Wow - this was fantastic! Our tour guide was Nemo (from the Shore Excursions team) - and he did a great job. I took the tour on Thursday February 21st at 9am (our first of two days at sea on our way home). Here is the description from the cruise planner: "Get a behind-the-scenes look at what we do to create your best vacation ever. Join your friendly guide for an exclusive narrated tour onboard your ship. Start off in the dining room, where you’ll find out what our crew does to get ready for every meal, plus try to set up a table yourself. Do you know where to place the water glass or soup spoon? Walk through the main galley to see how our delicious dishes are prepared, plus take a look at the provision area to see all of the ingredients we need to have on hand — it’s a lot! Then step inside the engine control room, where we monitor the systems used throughout the ship. You’ll also visit the ship’s vast laundry facilities. See where anything from napkins, table cloths and sheets to beach towels and the laundry you request gets cleaned and folded. Plus, you’ll have a chance to stroll the “I-95,” the long corridor in the crew’s area, named after the longest highway on the U.S. east coast. Finish with a real treat – a visit to the Bridge for a tour of the ship’s command center." On board the Royal Caribbean Grandeur of the Seas for a 9 Night Southeast Coast & Bahamas Cruise (February 14th through the 23rd, 2019). Northern Light CA Dean Hospital in Greenville, Maine, on Sept 12, 2024. In 2022, the hospital received $622,000 in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development (RD) to improve access to care within rural Piscataquis County. With the funding made available through the Rural Emergency Health Care Program, the hospital was able to purchase digital imaging equipment, such as a CT scanner and a mobile X-ray machine, which aid in rapid patient diagnosis and treatment. The funding also paid for a snowplow truck with a sander, which will help keep the hospital and its emergency services accessible to patients on even the snowiest of days. The historic but newly renovated critical access hospital, which is the smallest hospital in Maine, provides care for residents of Greenville and other rural communities, as well as for visitors to the scenic Moosehead Lake recreation area. My childhood came out in full force when I saw the "do not go here" ribbons around the building. Suddenly every old and un-used house, barn, and farm yard that I spent hours exploring came rushing back.
