Part of getting through life is accepting, and dealing with, our weaknesses. Which doesn't mean they aren't still a pain in the butt.
Me, I'm over-sensitive to all kinds of sensory input - and input affecting my sensors. For instance, even in August in our constant ocean breezes, I daren't go outside without my ears covered.
This is, of course, a huuuge pain. When everyone else is out in shorts and bathing suits, I'm sweating with a big fleecy band around my head. It sucks, but the alternative (excruciating ear aches) sucks a whole lot worse.
I'm also overly sensitive to noise. And bright light. Especially bright flashing light that hits my eyes unexpectedly. So... imagine how much fun I am as a companion at a rawk show. Normally I take along ear plugs. Last night I forgot.
I guess I was lulled into complacency by the fact that the show was at a theatre. A play house. A place I last attended in my teens, when I saw some Shakespearean production there. So yeah... I went in plugless. And immediately regretted it. Still... I was up for enjoying myself... until the %$(*&$%(&ing light show started.
I can't imagine whose idea it was to flash big spotlights directly into the audience's eyes repeatedly throughout the night. Probably the same wise person who decided a super-bright sign behind the band... illuminated by 10,000 1,000 watt bulbs... was also a very good thing to flash repeatedly in the audience's eyes.
What really amazed me was that no one else seemed bothered. Whereas I was in several sorts of agony all night.
The bright flashing lights. Fuck, man. I thought I was gonna have a seizure or something. I ended up spending most of the night doubled over with my head in my lap, eyes closed, hands clamped over my face. Every time I tried to enjoy actually watching the band... zappo! Unexpected blasts of super-bright white light set off pinball explosions in my brain.
So today is pretty much a write-off. Migraine city, man.
And I HATE HATE HATE that my body is so delicate.
I'm from sturdy peasant stock. Why am I so fragile? Why do things that normal people take in stride disable me?
Sorry for the whining self-pity. Kee-rist. At least I know, without a doubt, that I am now too old for rawk shows. Goodbye youth. Your time has come and gone. From now on I'll just satisfy myself by listening to records at home.

I'm back from my Oregon trip and will try and catch up with everyone. This image was accepted into Central Coast Artists Collective juried exhibit at the Art Center Morro Bay. The show will run from May 18 to June 26. The opening reception is May 21 at the Art Center.
First time using photo merger from 10 vertical shots. Accepting recommendations to make the process easier. It took me forever working from raw files, which generated a huge file.

Every 2 years the Grand-Place (central square) in Brussels is covered with a flower carpet of begonias during 3 or 4 days. The carpet of 77 m x 24 m is composed by about 120 volunteers, with nearly one million begonias.
This year, in 2016 the event was from Friday 12 to Monday 15 August 2016 at the Grand-Place (Grote Markt) in Brussels.
(Athough they said it is made of Belgian Begonias, I noticed a lot of Dahlia's !)
The theme this year (2016) was Japan, and you can see the Japanese flag in the design, Koi carps, Bonsai , Bamboo and the crane bird.

"Chouchou is a historic location in Second Life. Each of us has visited it at least once, and it enchanted us.
At the point of arrival, water, and an endless horizon seemingly infinite surround you.
When you activate music, it’s magic. The music is original to the authors of the location, more specifically: Juliet Heberle is a vocalist, while Arabesque Choch is a composer. The original music of Chouchou on the official website of the sim: chouchou.cc/music/.
Chouchou is known for its music and for the location of water that inspired many other sites, but it is right to remember that the sim hosts two other exciting spaces in the sky, Islamey, and Memento, accessible by a teleport located at the foot of the staircase that leads to the air.
Also, the authors of the location have made artistic videos of high level, and they are visible on their website at the following link: chouchou.cc/music/, under the heading “music videos.”
Today, reading on Facebook, I learned that Chouchou is in danger of closing down.
Many people are worried about this news because Chouchou is a symbol of Second Life, one of many, of course. However, one of the most significant. I hope that the Linden Lab will accept the invitation to preserve this place that for many Second Life users is a corner of peace, harmony, and therapy to the greyness of everyday life."

The scientific name Chrysochus auratus means “made of gold” and refers to the fantastic metallic hues of blue, green, gold, and red on surface of the beetle. This beetle has no accepted common name, but it is often referred to as the dogbane beetle due to its habit of feeding almost exclusively on plants in the genus Apocynum, herbaceous plants we refer to as dogbane.
Dogbane grows along roadsides and trails near the forest edge. It is a perennial with clusters of small white flowers. If you damage a leaf or stem, it oozes a white sticky sap. There in full view of all you will find the dogbane leaf beetle. It is a wonder that an insect so conspicuous can survive in a world where birds, toads, and mice dine on insects with gusto.
There is a secret to the dogbane beetle. The dogbane plant, is full of highly poisonous compounds known as cardenolides. These compounds are toxic to a variety of animals, including humans. Cardenolides are also known as cardiac glycosides and they can have profound and lethal effects on the heart if ingested. It is likely that these compounds evolved to keep leaf-munching animals from eating dogbane. The Chrysochus has the ability to eat the leaves of dogbane unscathed. Instead it ingests cardiac glycosides, stores them in glands, and then secretes them when threatened by its own predators.
It is believed that these toxic compounds confer protection from hungry predators that would otherwise devour Chrysochus. The conspicuous color and tendency for the beetle to feed and rest in full sight of its enemies are probably the beetle's way of advertising its nasty chemical defense. (Bugoftheweek) : )

Inside the main Sanctuary temple at the pilgrimage site of Lalish, preserving the tomb of Sheikh Adi, main figure of the Yezidi faith.
The place is wrapped with knotted prayer cloths, that pilgrims may tie and untie, thus releasing the previous pilgrim's wish to be granted.
Throughout their history, the Yazidi were always heavily persecuted. The latest was in 2014, when Daesh (ISIS) killed many Yazidis and kidnapped girls, young women and boys. Boys to be brainwashed and trained as warriors and girls to be sold as (sex) slaves. The genocide caused many Yazidis to be forced to leave their ancestral lands in Northern Iraq.

Bonaire Slave Huts
Before it was a scuba destination, Bonaire's main industry was the production of sea salt. In the days of slavery, men and women were forced to work as saltrakers in the salt evaporation pans of Bonaire's south shore. Slaves were housed in these small huts, now maintained by the local parks department.

Living for a moment of beauty:
Accepting the lightness of being means accepting a certain lack of ultimate meaning in life, and living for a moment of beauty.
Model: The Colby Files
It was something of a memorial traveling up to Groningen and walking - now alone - in the Prinsentuin, that exquisite pearl of gardens in the heart of Stad. This wonderful Imperial Purple-Blue Thistle, Echinops ritro 'Veitch's Blue', about to blossom, lifted my spirits. And I thought of the wise words of that grand philosopher-emperor Marcus Aurelius (121-180) in his Personal Notes, usually called his Meditations, Book 6, 39. I quote the Greek in tribute to my erstwhile rose-loving classicist companion:
Οἷς συγκεκλήρωσαι πράγμασι, τούτοις συνάρμοζε σεαυτόν, καὶ οἷς συνείληχας ἀνθρώποις, τούτους φίλει, ἀλλ ἀληθινῶς.
Freely paraphrased: 'Learn to accept what fate has brought you and love the people whom fate has put on your path'.
We talked often about this perambulating in the shady berceaux.
What more can I say?

Coral Sunset Intersectional Itoh Peony .
A sunset in a flower! Aptly named for its awe-inspiring transformation from a radiant, vivid coral through a range of peaches, and finally, a creamy white colour, the flower is a masterpiece at every step of this sunset, and one might argue a bloom only improves with age. Unique from other coral varieties in that it opens with the most intense coral colour and has petals that are more ruffled, which perhaps contribute to a fuller appearance. Has a lower, more compact growing habit than Coral Charm. Mass plantings are recommended as flowers at different colour stages provide a visual riot in the landscape.
Side buds are possible, extending the bloom period. A favourite of the peony garden, this outstanding peony produces intense sunset coral, semi-double blossoms with rose overtones and a fluffy deep yellow stamens in the center. The lightly fragrant flowers are long lasting in fresh bouquets. ‘Coral Sunset’ blooms early in the peony season, around late spring in Ontario It is highly prized for its exemplary plant habit. and by florist as cut flower in bouquets.

The Papal Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi (Italian: Basilica Papale di San Francesco, Latin: Basilica Sancti Francisci Assisiensis) is the mother church of the Roman Catholic Order of Friars Minor—commonly known as the Franciscan Order—in Assisi, Italy, the city where St. Francis was born and died. The basilica is one of the most important places of Christian pilgrimage in Italy. With its accompanying friary, the basilica is a distinctive landmark to those approaching Assisi. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000.
The basilica, which was begun in 1228, is built into the side of a hill and comprises two churches known as the Upper Church and the Lower Church, and a crypt where the remains of the saint are interred. The interior of the Upper Church is an important early example of the Gothic style in Italy. The Upper and Lower Churches are decorated with frescoes by numerous late medieval painters from the Roman and Tuscan schools, and include works by Cimabue, Giotto, Simone Martini, Pietro Lorenzetti and possibly Pietro Cavallini. The range and quality of the works gives the basilica a unique importance in demonstrating the development of Italian art of this period.

"Winter" - Alkaemy

I have zero intention to make a local political statement with my image here, rather a reflection/observation I see on a global scale when it comes to the intense polarization politics have been causing in societies.
It saddens me to read and see how polarized people can become over their political views and how quickly and deeply family members and old friends can break apart and disconnect from each other because of their opposing political views.
However intense and insane the world is becoming in front of our eyes on a local or global scale, and however insidiously propaganda hand in hand with social media will do their best to disconnect us every day, we should always remember to see the human being in the other person first.
Have patience to communicate, compassion to understand, and strength to accept each other's opinions.
The more sophisticatedly and aggressively media will tap into our instincts, the more harder it will become for us to see ourselves and each other, and the division just keeps widening between us.

This photo is a small celebration of mine for being accepted into the 2019 Mr and Miss Pride Pageant today, I've been very worried about showing that side of myself and today it feels like a boost to embrace it more often, even if some have left me in the dust because of it it is not me who has lost. But instead I am more free without having to hide myself around certain people or being looked down on or even being treated like it prevents me from being in a relationship. This past month has been rough but today is a win in my book. I have pride in myself and confidence I can do my best!

I've been tagged, so I'm planning to scan a baby photo of me tomorrow.
Just wanted to tell you a little more about me :)
My name is Jennie Anna Jeanique. I was born at the 20th of May in 1985.
I live in Alkmaar (the Netherlands) with my love Emiel, in our beautiful pallace we bought a year ago. We've been together since August 2007. I finished an education for audio visual design (moving pictures ;)) in 2007, after that I got accepted for a study to become a Drama therapist, but after a few months I had to quit because I had a mental breakdown. After a year of doing nothing but sleeping and sleeping and feeling really shitty I started with my 365 days project. I always wanted to be a photographer, but because I had some discouragement I quited. My other passion is singing and musical. I played ever since I was a kid and did about 12 musicals. I quited last year because I needed something different and because of personal circumstances. I started taking singing lessons 2 times a month, and I love it! When I was a kid I always wanted to be baby-nurse, after that I wanted to be a musical actress for a long time (still do secretly).
I love animals, I feel really comfortable arround them. My dream is to once have a farm with a Hanging belly pig, pigs are one of my favorite animals. My favorite color is green. My favorite english word is 'Fragile'. On my funeral I want loads of color, balloons. And the songs Bird Gurhl by Antony And The Johnsons and the live version of I remember by Damien Rice. My dreams in life are being happy (with Emiel ofcourse), becoming a mother (of Emiels baby DOH!), and maybe having an exhibition of my photos. My biggest fear is to lose someone I love. Pets included. I can't live without my love and my two cats Aunty Sterre and Mister Koika
and doggy Baby Benthe.
My motto is:
"Who wants to live forever"
And my biggest lesson in life is not to look back too much and to love myself.
Anything else?

A geeky computer joke. This shell is nature's way of exploring cellular automata :).
A cellular automaton is a mathematical technique that evolves a collection of data using very simple rules. This shell exhibits that sort of evolution along its outer surface.
In the computer world, a shell is a program that accepts a persons inputs (usually by typing commands) and then spits out the results.
