Today I had a malfunction with the operator of the camera gear and flipped the switch to P on the dial by accident when what I wanted was M. Seems the 300mm lends gives some bad dope in Nikon's 'Priority Shutter Mode' Sorry Nikon but 1/1000th at f16 is not the proper exposure here. 1/500th at maybe f9 or 10 would have been just fine.
I'll redeem my mistake with the next train.

Unfortunately the sun was on the wrong side and the locomotives cabs were on the shady side for the shot.

Lazy Days, Tehachapi. UP 5948, sits on the point of an MOW, train at Tehachapi, proper. I had shot this train from a standing position, but took these shots whilst waiting for Rich. This was also a good opportunity to experiment with manual focus as the lens kept hunting.

Seconds from a 3 way meet and maybe if I had used my wide angle but this was cutting it to close as it was. UP CWFAT 12 with UP AC4400CWCTE 5737 leads UP AC4400CW 6250 (SP) while UP AC4400CW 6488 is on the rear. The train has just arrived the Black Thunder West loadout as this train has been diverted from Antelope Mine. The inbound CP crew has jumped off and the "creeping" has begun. UP AC4400CWCTE 5663 leads UP AC4400CW 6366 on the head end as UP AC4400CW 6657 and UP AC44/60AC 7301 bring up the rear of this load from just up the way. In less then 3 seconds a BNSF C ETMCRD1 08 would come off the Thunder Mine "complex" leads and pace the UP 5663 South.
