Magpie, Abraxas grossulariata.
Wingspan Range – 36-50mm.
Flies in a single generation from June – August, it is found throughout Britain, except in the far north.
Variable black and white patterned wings with a yellowy-orange stripe in the middle of its forewings and near its head. It is found throughout Britain, except in the far north.
Common throughout lowland mainland Britain, the Isle of Man, Ireland and the Channel Islands. Most abundant on northern heather moorland but also fairly frequent in garden, allotments, hedgerows and woodland. The adults can sometimes be found at rest on Bramble and other low foliage.
The distinctive Magpie Moth caterpillar is c 30 mm with a creamy white body, rows of black and white spots and an orange spiracular stripe and overwinters on the food plants which consist of: Currant and gooseberry bushes (Ribes spp.), Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna), Hazel (Corylus avellana), Garden Privet (Ligustrun ovalifolium), Spindle (Euonymus europaeus) and Bramble (Rubus fruiticosus) as well as heathers in northern Scotland.
The distinctive black and yellow striped pupa of the Magpie Moth caterpillar is commonly spun up amongst leaves of the food plant and occasionally found suspended on silk thread from twigs in hedgerows. The moths emerge within a month.

Quelle cité de France peut se vanter d’avoir accueilli le tournage de films cultes comme « Brazil » ou de blockbuster comme « Hunger Games » ? Les Espaces d’Abraxas bien sûr, plus communément appelé le Palacio. Cette cité futuriste, située à Noisy-le-Grand, et surnommée aussi Gotham City.
Indéniablement, l’architecture des lieux impressionne. Conçu par le maître catalan Ricardo Bofill au début des années 1980, le site est unique. Avec ces 610 logements répartis en trois zones, le Palacio et ses HLM tarabiscotés, le Théâtre, une propriété privée en forme d’hémicycle et l’Arche qui trône au milieu. Ces façades monumentales, de style néoclassique, enserre une place ovale. Résultat : la cité vit un peu replié sur elle-même. L’univers du Palacio est un peu compliqué, certains des ascenseurs ne montent les étages que trois par trois et il est possible de trouver un deux pièces… en duplex.
Pour bon nombre d’habitants, le Palacio, « tu l’aimes ou tu le quittes ». « C’est une architecture tellement imposante qu’on ne peut pas rester indifférent », explique une habitante à la tête de l’association les Abraxas. L’ancien maire (PS), Michel Pajon, lui, n’aimait pas le site. A tel point, qu’un temps, il aurait envisagé de le détruire.

This is a moth that doesn't hide by day instead relying on it's markings which look a bird dropping on a leaf. Quite a scarce and localised species in Ireland, with most records from the north-east.
Bei meinem gestrigen Spaziergang fiel mir etwas Weißes auf dem Blatt des Baumes auf. Zuerst, das gebe ich zu, dachte ich es wäre Vogelkot. Aber irgendetwas lockte mich es näher zu betrachten. Und da erkannte ich, dass es ein Nachtfalter war!
Meine Freude war groß, denn so einen hatte ich vorher noch nie gesehen.
