A cinema had operated on this site from 1914 when the Imperial Picture House was built. The site was sold off to ABC who re-built the cinema as a 1,906 seater named the Regent when it opened on 11th July 1938. Converted to a three screen cinema in 1973, a Dolby sound system was installed in 1998 to enhance the film presentations. With competition from the nearby Strood Virgin multiplex, the last film was screened on 3rd January 2002. So providing screen entertainment to it’s patrons for almost 90 years.
