To weigh
a ball proves nothing
about the colour.
You look at
a ruler
and you hear
a piano.
While counting
eleven
sparrows their
rhythm escapes.
A dash
the length of
a now older
child.
Arranging flowers
by colour?
Their size
will be lost.
There she goes and
she isn’t being
photographed
by anyone.

V/Line passenger loco A-73 waits for station work to be completed at Traralgon before proceeding to its destination of Sale in eastern Victoria. This is the Sunday only 'down' passenger train from Melbourne to Sale and return.
Twenty-five of these locos were constructed as 1500 hp 'B' class locos in 1952/53. In 1983/84, eleven 'B' locos were converted to 'A' class locos. Each loco was stripped to a shell in Melbourne before it was hauled to Clyde Engineering in South Australia for the rebuilding to take place. The original super-charged 16 cylinder motor was replaced by a 12 cylinder turbo-charged motor. Power output went from 1500 hp to 2500 hp. The cab was fitted with air-conditioning and modern cab controls. The roof line between both cabs was completely altered to accommodate the new power plant. The generator was replaced by an alternator.
After introduction, the "A" locos were used for many years on both freight and passenger trains. As of January 2016, only one remains in service with the remaining ten stored waiting possible scrapping. This photo was taken around 1993.
