I had a hard time falling asleep last night, so you can guess what I did: reached for the phone and created a #9of2012 grouping! This collection features nine favorite photos taken in Texas during 2012 that I posted on Instagram (and cross-published several of them here on Flickr).
Top row: vintage signs for beloved food establishments in Houston (left), San Antonio (middle), and Richmond (right), all open and thriving.
Middle row: vintage motel signs in Austin (the Don-Mar motel's long gone, and the sign's future unknown), Luling (closed, and, as of last week when I drove by it, still for sale), and Wharton (you might know that I stayed in one of the motel's restored teepee-shaped rooms?!).
Bottom row: ghost signs in Gonzales and Galveston (middle and right).
Thanks to all of you for the memories and kindness you've shared with me and with others here on Flickr during 2012. Here's to a great 2013, and beyond, for us all!
This weekend I played around with the camera the father of my father-in-law used to use. The exposure meter instrument doesn't work anymore.
I parsed and parried. I deliberated and contemplated. These are my 9 favorite photos from 2012. My #9of2012. In sticking with the challenge, I limited myself to nine. No theme. Just the nine favorite photos I posted to IG this year. Please note this collection is purely for my own benefit. These surely aren't the most technically sound photographs. They just mean the most to me. Each has sentimental value. It would take too long to explain that value, and it wouldn't mean much to anyone but me anyway. As it says in my profile, "Sometimes kid-centric." So, I'll just identify each by its title and leave it at that. Thanks so much everyone for helping me tap into a creative self that I didn't know existed.
