I am revisiting this photo because I was asked permission to use it. So I reprocessed it and it brought back wonderful memories when we could travel. Taken in Belize, Central America.
Thank you for your visit and comments. They are very much appreciated.
Last post for a while so thought I would look after the otter lovers. Found this one fast asleep and sat with it for quite a while waiting for it to wake up. Certainly worth spending a day with the professionals to learn their fieldcraft before setting out on your own.
Many thanks as always for your comments and faves. Always much appreciated.
This was one of the most amazing experiences for me, showing the absolute wonder of nature. The Acorn Woodpecker makes holes in a tree and fills each one with acorns. This was sort of a stash because it wasn't the season. They don't actually eat the acorns but use them as bait to attract insects which the woodpecker eats when they remove the acorn. I was lucky to catch one woodpecker actually on the tree and tried several times to get him again under better light but this was the only time I saw him on the tree. I was just amazed at the number of holes there were in this tree and you can imagine how much work it took to make them. They seemed to like the top of the power pole also and, perhaps, had some holes on the top. They also put the acorns in any cavity they could find, as on the fence post.
Taken in Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary, Belize, Central America. Only seeing a Toucan in the wild, which I didn't, would have topped this experience! I have added several more photos in the comment box.
