Strömung am Wehr

I've been practicing "stay-at-home" a lot lately but I finally got out to my favorite local park - the one with the "no fishing" because of an algae bloom. Well, rats, the sign was gone and there was a line of people (with fishing poles) to get in at opening. Rats, too, to my "quiet place". It is a big park, and there are wild areas, and this was my bonus for the morning - a Downy Woodpecker.

Feel free to check it large - lots of resolution, I grabbed that 61 mp thing accidently.

CSX #3232 leads a westbound empty coal hopper train through Thurmond, WV on the spring morning of May 18, 2021. The town was founded by W.D. Thurmond in 1873 when the former Civil War Confederate Captain purchased 73 acres along the newly completed Chesapeake & Ohio Railway in the New River Gorge. Thurmond became the center of commerce and activity in the Gorge and became known as the "Wild West Town of the East". Activity at Thurmond peaked in 1910 when Thurmond had more freight tonnage than Cincinnati, OH, and Richmond, VA combined. 75,000 passengers also passed through the town that same year to enjoy its amenities: two hotels, two banks, numerous restaurants, and a movie theater just to name a few.

Bruant hudsonien /American tree sparrow

The global pandemic has most of us looking through our archives for uplifting photos from uplifting times. One of my favorite photos from my first expedition to photograph polar bears sheds light on just how strongly bears rely on their sense of smell. Are they old friends or even family? Only they know. They did spend plenty of time sparring and being lazy along the coast of Hudson Bay waiting for the ice to form.

In case you think you've seen this photo before, it's possible you have. This is a re-edited version.

Another version of the umbrella photo.

Puesta de Sol en La Maruca, Santander, Cantabria

Either nature doesn't comply :) Or a truck comes over and shakes the Tripod as my train passes. One morning I'll get the shot I envision. Until then
