Goodbye old friend

This is a picture that has been hanging on our fridge for about 10 years now. On 4/28/01 an orange & white cat we had never seen before showed up on our deck. My cats had never met an 'outsider' before & were very curious & excited, which is why I snapped this picture of them checking out the new guy. He got the nick-name Squirrel Killer b/c only a day or two after I took this picture, I was unfortunate enough to look out just in time to see him killing a squirrel in our back yard. Little did I know that over 10 years' time Squirrel Killer (a.k.a. "SK") would take up permanent residence in our yard, become an unofficial member of the family, and earn a special place in my heart.

SK passed away on Monday and our yard will never be the same. It makes me so sad to think of looking outside and not seeing that spot of white & orange fur that was a permanent fixture in our back yard. I'm so glad it was our yard he wandered into and us that he chose to adopt 10 years ago.

94/365 - Run Dan Run - "Discrete"

Our lips are sealed and we're not telling

Our doors are shut and we're not seeing

Our ears are deaf and we're not listening

Our eyes are closed and we're not believing

No one has to know

No one has to know

We are all in this together

Our secrets safe from each other

And we will go on avoiding

And see how long we can be convincing

Have we hit the mark

Have we hit own marks

Let's keep this discrete

Let's sweep this under the rug

Let's keep this discrete

No one has to know

No one has to know

My feelings need validating

Peppermint Joe-Joe's *** They are like Oreos, but with a candy cane filling. You can only get them from Trader Joe's Grocery at Christmas. Warning - If you are like me and you love peppermint, beware, eating one of these is a slippery slope!
