In 1922,the architect Emiel Van Averbeke built a fire station at quay nr. 63, at the end of the Kattendijk dock. The design of this building was based on the 16th century Hansa building which was destroyed by fire in 1893.

In 2016 the old fire station was incorporated into the new headquarters for the Port of Antwerp Authority. A new extension, designed by Zaha Hadid, rises from within and over the original building in the form of a ship. The facetted windows refer to the diamond industry of Antwerp.

The building is seen here on a cold (-2°C) and slightly foggy night.

After some hours dancing around the cheese it becomes a little bit dirty and I eat it. It tasted wonderful. And so I got a unique capture of my cheese now, nobody else can repeat it.
