"Pinwheels for Prevention"
April is Child Abuse Prevention month and yesterday these metallic blue and silver pinwheels were planted at the Hawaii State Capitol. It's a national campaign which highlights the pinwheel as a symbol for child abuse prevention and neglect. These pinwheels whirled in the wind as I took several snapshots today and will be visible from April 4th through the 10th.
Last Friday I got a chance to reshoot the Pier 94 site I had visited week or so ago. In that original session I had struggled a bit with cloudy skies, inconsistent and turbulent winds, and a couple of suboptimal camera settings (e.g., lens wide open and thus soft in the corners).
This session found sunny skies, a lower tide, and a breeze that was still problematically variable but not to the extent of the 4 August session. The photo yield was much improved.

Up until the late 19th Century the Islais Creek basin on San Francisco’s southern coast was an impressive tidal marsh. Then the exuberant application of explosives, steam, and later diesel power filled the marsh to create district of industrial works.
In the current day there is little to recognize of the former wetlands. The Islais Creek channel is still there in a formal, channelized way. Here and there you can find small patches of long neglected shoreline where nature has managed to soften the industrial vocabulary of the landscape. One example is Heron’s Head Park, which we documented earlier in the Hidden Ecologies project. On Saturday I visited another bit of the shore right at the outlet of Islais Creek. This is a site called Pier 94 where the Golden Gate Audubon Society is managing a small plot of land to provide habitat for wildlife and waterfront access for humans.
I love music...Since late 2003 I have been listening to heavy metal music and when I bought my own computer in 2009 I started to download albums of metal bands...Since 2016 I have been downloading full discographies of all the albums of metal bands I love...I have more than 18 GB of music in my computer in mp3 format and in my Samsung Galaxy S3 phone...Most people believe heavy metal music is associated with drugs and violence which is not true...I don't wear T-Shirts with labels of metal bands, I don't drive motorcycle as fans of metal music often do ( I don't know even how to ride a motorcycle...The album cover arts of these bands are here...They are Metallica, Megadeth, Linkin Park, Evanescence, Slipknot, KoRn, Disturbed, Lamb of God, Dream Theater, Five Finger Death Punch, Mastodon, and Anthrax. I have lots of free time since I don't work anymore so what I do is play with the computer, smoke cigarettes, drink coffee, and take photos / videos and upload them to Facebook and other sites... :)
