A small crowd formed at Monarch to witness the unbelievable sight for 2021 of three SD40-2Fs cowl units powering a train on a Class 1 railroad. Here the dynamic trio are pulling towards to west switch at Monarch to begin spotting a customer and lifting their train of empty ballast cars. Unfortunately for us, that also spelled the end of our short chase in daylight.

With less than an hour before sunset (and quickly approaching clouds off the mountains), the three CMQ barns finally emerge out of Lethbridge yard, as they begin their trip west across the Crowsnest Sub.

With just under an hour until sunset, three CMQ SD40-2Fs lead a short train westbound out of Lethbridge's Kipp yard.

 

Add this into the category of things I never would've thought of seeing...

The quickly setting sun illuminates three SD40-2Fs as they approach Monarch with a short train of manifest traffic.

Pacific National's 9022 "Clint Robinson" runs light on the coal lines through Victoria Street Station at Maitland, New South Wales, Australia.

Not sure why, but most likely as a breakdown replacement somewhere.
