This is what all the passport pictures have been building up to.
900 pictures from 36 exposures each showing a different facial expression or side of my personality building up to the complete self portrait. The majority were developed in the darkroom changing the filters to get the appropriate colours and the rest were scanned and digitially manipulated and printed.
I raised some pictures on blocks of foamboard so i could include personal information like phone numbers, national insurence numbers and some blood.
It was all based on the theme of identity.
Thank you all so much for liking what I do. I do this just because I have a love of making what I hope are fun and different photo ideas for everyone to see. I'm not the best SL photographer, not by a long shot, but like I have always said if what I do makes at least one person out there smile then I feel like I have done something good. L’Alpe Vercio è un incantevole pianoro a 900 metri di altitudine, situato nel territorio del comune di Mergozzo (VB), che domina il Verbano, il Cusio e la bassa Ossola,.
Qui don Piero Udini (classe 1923) ha dato vita a un Eremo dove accoglie chi desidera vivere l’esperienza del silenzio e della meditazione.
In quest’alpe, coltivata a prati e pascoli, si insediarono, fin dal secolo XIV, alcune famiglie provenienti da Bracchio e da Rovegro, le quali costruirono ricoveri per il bestiame e casere per la lavorazione del latte.
Il rapporto don Piero con Vercio dura quanto la sua stessa vita: fin da bambino saliva con la madre e i fratelli per i mesi estivi a quello che allora era un alpeggio abitato. Qui celebrò le prime messe fino a che, da parroco, avviò quassù una colonia estiva per ragazzi, a partire dal 1950, quando, dal dottor Peretti, ricevette in dono quella proprietà che più tardi diverrà l’Eremo di Vercio.
A partire dalla metà degli anni ’70, Vercio divenne la residenza (normalmente da aprile ad ottobre), di don Piero e di Teresa (la sua domestica), che lo ospita ancora oggi a Campino, nella sua abitazione, durante i mesi più freddi.
Il gioiello dell’Eremo è la chiesetta della Madonna del Vercio. Al centro dell’alpeggio venne, con tutta probabilità, edificata una prima cappella che doveva servire come luogo di devozione e riparo ai pastori ed ai viandanti. Dopo che Bracchio nel 1715 era diventata parrocchia, su questa antica cappella si decise di erigere una chiesetta. I lavori iniziarono nel 1728 con la costruzione del coro e del presbiterio. Nel 1776 si costruì la navata con il protiro e la chiesa di Vercio fu terminata. Nel 1869 alla parete nord della chiesa fu addossata la sagrestia con un modesto alloggio, in seguito completato, per il sacerdote. Il campanile fu innalzato solo nel 1884 e nel 1968 fu ricostruito il muraglione che sostiene il sagrato. Nell’Ottocento la chiesa, inizialmente dedicata a San Giuseppe, divenne un centro di devozione mariana tanto da essere comunemente chiamata ‘Chiesa della Madonna di Vercio’.

On the 20th of June 2007 (nearly 15 years ago now)... I created my first "Vertorama". I'd never heard of that word before that date.
Although I won't ever claim to be the first person to create a Vertorama (or to call it that)... for a few years I shot nothing but Vertoramas (and I always called them that). I was completely addicted to them!
So what exactly is a "Vertorama"? It's nothing more than an abbreviation for the words "Vertical Panorama". Most panoramas that you'll see are horizontal (long and narrow), but a vertorama is vertical in orientation... and most often square.
I really enjoyed the visual impact of vertical panoramas consisting of only two photos (one above the other), usually taken with my wide-angle lens and always with my camera in the landscape orientation. This became "my thing" for a while, and I'd like to say that my passion inspired many other photographers to try their hands at Vertoramas.
A few weeks ago I counted and discovered that I've now captured (and edited (and shared on social media))) more than 1000 Vertoramas! That made me wonder if I could somehow exhibit all of them at the same time?
Many of my early Vertoramas look like complete crap! And since I don't want to re-edit a single photo (which would defeat the purpose of this exercise)... I decided to narrow down my selection to my best 900 Vertoramas.
This is what I managed to come up with. This mosaic is made up of 30 rows of 30 tiles (900 images). Once I'd discarded all the duds, I used an amazing free program called "AndreaMosaic" to best arrange all my photos according to the colour-wheel.
At first I considered offering this (huge) final image up for auction as an NFT. But the more that I'm researching NFTs, the less I like the concept. So at this stage I definitely won't be going in that direction.
I'm now thinking about creating one single book containing all of these images (one per page), with a few paragraphs of text describing how and when and where I captured each photo. I would also print this mosaic-image large on canvas (at least 2mx2m)... and along with a USB memory stick containing all the high-resolution digital image files... I would offer everything up for sale in an auction... to one single person.
I would (of course) always retain the ownership to all the original images, but the successful bidder would be permitted to use them in any way that they see fit (even offering them for sale again (and even as an NFT)).
Any takers, anyone? Please feel free to make me an offer if you are.
