For this weeks Macro Mondays theme I walked up to the old trash pit and found some corroded items with hexagonal features. This is a grease fitting and the hex is around 3/8 of an inch or 9.5mm approximately. I don't know what it was meant to grease because the thing is mostly buried under ground and brush. HMM everyone. And thanks for any and all views, likes, and comments.
An approximately ⅜” (9.5mm)-wide section of a frame of SMPTE 35-PA (RP-40) 35mm projector alignment film. (Click here to view a full frame of the film.) The checkerboard pattern serves as a focusing aid, and also helps to reveal steadiness and shutter timing issues.
I couldn't help but throw in a little pareidolia, courtesy of the two resolution charts, the centerpoint marker, and the black box used as an aid in detecting travel ghost (streaking that occurs when the shutter is improperly timed with the intermittent movement or damaged, or as a result of mechanical wear).
Taken back at the beginning of May (5th) this year 2018 in my garden on honeysuckle leaves.
A shiny little hoverfly of about 9.5mm in length.
This example I managed to capture here is the female.

These 2 postcards are French and date back to 1925. Standing between them is a Pathescope Motocamera 9.5mm cine camera from the late 1920s, which was also made in France. It may look as if this image has a border, but in fact the objects were photographed on an offcut of plain wallpaper I picked up at my local B&Q. It's surprising what can come in useful. :)
For this week's Smile on Saturday group theme, Postcards & Greeting Cards.
Since everything in the image is vintage, I thought it would be fun to take it with my vintage Helios 44-2 58mm lens, which I hadn't picked up in a while.
Eristalinus aeneus (Scopoli 1763) wing length 6.5mm to 9.5mm.
Most species of Eristalinus have distinctive eye markings and Eristalinus aeneus definitely has this characteristic.
They are very quick and agile flyers like most Eristalinus species.
Habitat… Mainly coastal.
Feeding on a wide range of nectar giving flowers.
Larvae of Aeneus is saprobic on wet, decaying frond of Seaweeds.
Over The Pass, looking up and over towards the Talla Reservoir in this snow winter scene.I just had to stop when i passed these sheep, just love those horns.

An attractive nomad bee of around 7 - 9.5mm in size.
Flies from April to June and is quite widespread around the country.
This shot was taken in my garden a couple of days ago on June 10th 2017.
I'm still checking the ID but studying this image together with others taken of it on the day they seem to point towards it being N.marshamella.
As always , anyone out there who sees this image and disagrees with my ID please don't hesitate to contact and correct me please. I'm here to learn.

The ARA Libertad ARA Libertad (Q-2) is a steel-hulled, full-rigged, class "A" sailing ship that serves as a school vessel in the Argentine Navy. One of the largest and fastest tall ships in the world, holder of several speed records, she was designed and built in the 1950s by the Río Santiago Shipyard, Ensenada, Argentina. Her maiden voyage was in 1961, and she continues to be a training ship with yearly instruction trips for the graduating naval cadets as well as a traveling goodwill ambassador, having covered more than 800,000 nautical miles (1,500,000 km) across all seas, visited about 500 ports in more than 60 countries, and trained more than 11,000 navy graduates.
The ninth Argentine Navy vessel to bear the name Libertad, she has a total length (including bowsprit) of 103.75 m; a beam of 14.31 m; a draft of 6.60 m; and a displacement of 3,765 metric tonnes: these figures place ARA Libertad as the world's sixth longest tall ship and the third heaviest in displacement. Her complement is 357, including 24 officers, 187 crewmen and 150 naval cadets, among them an ever-increasing number of invited officers from friendly nations' armed forces, personnel from the Argentine Army, Air Force and Coast Guard, students, journalists and distinguished people from different areas and disciplines, both local and foreign.
The ship's follows the archetypal windjammer design, with a clipper bow and a wood-carved figurehead representing Liberty in a long flowing robe and a cruiser stern bearing the Argentine coat of arms in cast bronze.
She is an all square rigged vessel, with bowsprit and three steel masts –Fore, Main (height of 56,2m), and Mizzen with boom– with double topsails and five yardarms each, which can rotate up to 45 degrees on each side. Five jibs are fixed to the bowsprit. All masts have five square sails, with the foremast and mainmast having three staysails, and the mizzen, a spanker, summing up 27 dacron sails with a total sail area of 2,652 square meters. Masts have a circular cross section, formed by welded steel sheets between 9.5mm and 12mm thick.
The vessel carries four fully functional 47 mm QF 3 pounder Hotchkiss cannons, 1891 model, which were transferred from the previous school ship ARA Presidente Sarmiento. Although only used as a protocolar salute battery, these cannons make Libertad the second most heavily armed tall ship in the world.
The magnificent sailing frigate ARA LIBERTAD of the Argentine Navy is seen berthed alongside Sir John Rogerson's Quay in the Port of Dublin on the River Liffey.

The ship was visiting Dublin as part of the 150th anniversary commemorations of the death of Admiral William Brown which saw the unveiling of a statue close to where the ship was berthed.
Admiral Brown was born in County Mayo and served originally in the US Merchant Navy before being press ganged into the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars.
He eventually set himself up as a merchant and emigrated to South America where he became involved in the wars of liberation.
Admiral Brown founded the Argentine Navy and is held in high esteem in Argentina. There are over 1,200 streets named after him in the country.
Brown died in 1857 aged 79 in Buenos Aires.

The ship was extensively upgraded between 2004 and 2007 which included the fitting of new engines and the provision of accommodation for female crew.
