Figure of 8 Pool, Royal National Park, NSW
On the weekend I headed out to shoot Figure of 8 pool in Royal National Park. It was the result of months of planning, as the rock shelf in which the pool is only accessible at low tide, and we wanted this to coincide with sunrise for nice light, and then we had to work out how to get there! It is a great feeling finally arriving at a location and shooting it after the effort put in to get there.

This is the first photograph in my 'Miniature Worlds' collection. The entire collection focuses on mixing objects of a different scale in harmony in a single frame. 'Bookworm' is a very personal image to the model Sam who has had a great love of reading for as long as I've known him. However being dyslexic he has always had a really hard time reading and writing for himself. As a result of this he encountered more than his fair share of bullying during his school years. Yet through pure determination combined with his love of great storytelling he overcomes the obstacles life has thrown at him one step at a time growing more confident in his abilities every day. Sam has even taken the skills he has learned from reading the novels he loves and has recently applied them into writing his own works of fiction, although it is often a long and stressful task for him. Sam's sense of determination is truly inspiring and should be seen as a lesson to anyone struggling to overcome life's hurdles and the negativity that comes along with it. I wanted the photograph to have a sense of calm to show the feeling of relaxation and escapism Sam encounters while reading. It was also very important to me to express the idea of Sam emerging from the books that for so long he had used to hide away from the world and along with it all of the negative people he had encountered.

This is my pinewood derby car I built with my dad when I was 8. I still have the scar from slicing my knee with a saw, but that was a great time.
Ol' number 8 is still undefeated.

After a series of images from a Carl Zeiss Ultron 50mm f1.8, here's another Ultron-design lens, a SMC Takumar 55mm f1.8.
I can do a bunch of different stuff in 8 minutes. I can run a mile. Brew a pot of coffee (and maybe pour a cup). Make breakfast and lunch for the day. Iron a shirt. Type about uhhh, 560 words. This exposure is 8 minutes long, during which time I did absolutely nothing but watch the light fade, the water move and these clouds march along above me. I'm ok with that.

And I didn't even use any of Darragh's sooper-dooper Sting Ray filters!
Why I took it was because she's adorable.This is my cat Marie, I enjoyed this photo because of how close up it was. Composition up close and rule of thirds. I deserve an A.

Week 8 - Movie Titles
"Jonathan Livingston Seagull" 1973
A philosophical and whimsical little film about the quest for wisdom, featuring a seagull who doesn't fit in with the rest of his clan and decides to discover the world beyond his known horizon.
I can remember it being a bit of a cult book prior to becoming a movie - regrettably included in the list of 'Fifty Worst Films of All Time' - a tad harsh I thought seeing as it redeemed itself by winning both a Grammy and a Golden Globe for Best Original Score the following year.
As I live in one of the most land-locked areas of the UK, I regret I had to photograph him in the aforementioned "world beyond his known horizon" of the local park, rather than above the crashing waves of the ocean.

I braved the riverside path today. It was predictably muddy. Apparently these boots were disposed of some time ago. Someone has retrieved them from the water line and placed them on the path. It makes for an intriguing shot.
Boeing's 747-8 Freighter painted in the colors of the Seattle Seahawks will perform a flyover during today's celebration at CenturyLink Field. The flyover is scheduled at the end of the event at approximately 2pm Pacific. The airplane will fly from south to north over the stadium.
The airplane was painted in the Seahawks livery prior to the Super Bowl as a way to congratulate the team and its fans. Boeing is a sponsor of the Seahawks and has partnered with the team for more than a decade on special projects across Puget Sound.
