Intercity liveried 87029 'Earl Marischal' and matching stock round Queensville Curve on the approach to Stafford with an afternoon London Euston-Liverpool Lime Street train in March 1987. I first saw a lovely Michael Mensing picture of a class 40 here in a railway annual in the 1960's and the footbridge remains a popular location for photographers today

This one caught me out as I remember hence it not fitting the frame very well. 47721"Saint Bede"+47736"Cambridge T&RS"towing 87029"Earl Marischal" passing Ladybridge Lane Bolton taken from Deane Golf Club. Diverted 1P57 08.30 Euston -Preston on 3 December 2001.

47840"North Star"+87029"Earl Marischal" DIT pass Saltley viaduct on 03/Aug/2003 working the diverted 1G21 08.50 London Euston to Wolverhampton service.

The first picture was taken on August 4th 1976 and features 87029 heading for Euston.

The pendo was 390136, one of the eleven car formations which was also Euston bound with 1A36 from Manchester Piccadilly on August 4th 2016.

It took me 40 years almost to the day to go back to find a station in much better condition with a more frequent service too. The footbridge has gone, as has the rather naff bus shelter.

The passenger experience has gone backwards though in my opinion, give me a seat on a mk3 against the cramped and usually overcrowded pendlino.

Rob glances at the speeding train, he told me that the lovely station building is now a vets practice.

I took a burst of frames, but chose to have the train in the 'now' shot a bit further back to show the brickwork which was best covered up by the loco in 1976.

87029 'Earl Marischal' pauses at Stafford at the head of 1_05 18.35 Euston to Preston. Stafford was a regular stop for me as I was travelling north on Business. 13/10/2003

With a fantastic mountain backdrop, two former United Kingdom based locomotives stand in the warm Bulgarian sun at Pirdop: BZK green and yellow liveried Class 87, No.87029 and Class 92, No.92025 'Oscar Wilde'.

The 87 will later be joined by an ex-Romanian GFR (Grup Feroviar Roman) Class 40 to form the 18:40 departure to Razdelna with loaded Sulphuric acid tanks whilst the Class 92 (which was exported in December 2012) will run light engine to the nearby Chelopech mine to collect a rake of box wagons bound for the Black Sea port of Burgas.

Cotswold Rail liveried Class 87, No.87007 and BZK liveried 87029 are illustrated at Pirdop, about to tackle some Bulgarian hills with DTV30587, the 16:55 Pirdop - Razdelna service conveying Sulphuric acid tanks.
