CP Train 498 backs into CP's St Paul yard with a fourth motor that's an indication of things to come. The KCS is going to have to get used to the CP's mandate to put the worst engine on the point however.
Clouds over the mountains take on the warm shades of orange, red, and purple colours from the setting sun just as a couple GE's lead train 112 east away from Calgary.
A mile or so north of town, a derail exists on the main. Before the ADMTN passed the derail, they weren't moving very fast at all.
I got a last-minute tip about an ADMTN crew called at a good time to head to a train starting in Brainard. Right as I pulled into town, the train was departing. Talk about perfect timing.
Brainerd is now the end of the former Union Pacific line from Central City to Valpraiso. When UP was planning on selling the line off, they tore up the section between Valpraiso and Brainard, preventing NCRC from having access into Lincoln.
