One from the archives… as I remember, it was a Wonderful Day in Utah and a Fine Day to be Alive.

(Nikon D610, 24-70/2.8, 1/80 @ f/22, ISO 200)

For over 4,000 years Mother Nature has thrown everything she had at this tree... Unbearable cold, blizzards, gale force winds, drought, searing heat, earthquakes, and unrepentant tourists, and The Guardian has weathered every storm, every threat, every challenge and remained standing, though it succumbed to inevitable mortality over 500 years ago.

This ancient bristlecone pine, situated with one other tree on the edge of a steep slope in the White Mountains has been the subject of countless photographs under a variety of conditions. I was here with a group for an astrophotography workshop, and although I am pleased with some of the images I captured later that night, this one is the one that stands out above all others.

During the last weekend in August, the daytime high temperatures - even at 9,000' elevation - were above 80° F, and at nearly 8 PM, still holding in the upper-60s, while Bishop and Big Pine in the Owens Valley below, roasted in the 90s and 100s. The heat of the valley combined with the cool air crossing the ridge tops above the Sierras to the west create interesting weather and clouds in the late afternoon, which seemed daunting initially, but cleared soon after sunset to allow for clear skies when it was time to capture the galactic core of the Milky Way above.

This male house finch looks very happy to be enjoying a sunny warm spring day here in northeast Iowa. Yesterday we set an all-time record high temperature for the date at 80 F, almost 30 degrees above normal - and we repeated that 80 F/27 C performance today.

A cold rainy day with a few snow flurries thrown in made for a miserable day for the birds! This Queen Cardinal endured it rather stoically I think. No snow today as it's supposed to get up to 80' F. Too hot for me! Although, I know that by the end of August this temperature will seem cool to me!

They are getting so big. When they stand in front of me now they are way more then half my size and my oldest...only 2 shoes sizes away from wearing my footwear...(help)!

Love this one, cause I love them. Catching it on film….even better. Classic and timeless.

It was captured during Pavarana Purnima festival. Pavarana is a Buddhist holy day celebrated on the full moon of the eleventh lunar month. It marks the end of the month of Vassa, sometimes called "Buddhist Lent." This day marks the end of the rainy season in some Asian countries like Thailand, where Theravada Buddhism is practiced. On this day, each monk (Pali: bhikkhu) must come before the community of monks (Sangha) and atone for an offense he may have committed during the Vassa.

In Bangladesh Buddhist devotees fly Fanush (Hot Air Balloon) to honor Lord Buddha and all the departed soul during the eve of Pavarana Purnima.

I learned why Rainforests are so prevalent in Costa Rica… it rains a lot :-)

Average rainfall in Costa Rica is 100 inches, but the more mountainous rainforest regions can get up to 25 feet of rainfall annually.

Costa Rica is a rugged, rain forested Central American country with coastlines on the Caribbean and Pacific. Costa Rica is known for its beaches, volcanoes, and biodiversity. Roughly a quarter of its area is made up of protected jungle, teeming with wildlife including spider monkeys and quetzal birds.

Costa Rica was inhabited by indigenous peoples before coming under Spanish rule in the 16th century. It remained a peripheral colony of the empire until independence as part of the First Mexican Empire, followed by membership in the Federal Republic of Central America, from which it formally declared independence in 1847. Following the brief Costa Rican Civil War in 1948, it permanently abolished its army in 1949, becoming one of only a few sovereign nations without a standing army.

(This image is half of the story, read below to know the full).

In the first Spring, the forest was adorned with so many flowers and perfumes that it decided to stay forever like this. And beg the other 3 Seasons not to come around. Winter and Fall agreed, but not Summer. Then the forest kept all the flowers until an explorer from the old World looking for the legendary fountain of youth arrived. Juan Ponce was impressed by the many flowers and called the forest "Florida".

(Spanish): Fábula de los Bosques de Florida. (Florida).

I usually prefer to rent a car on any adventure I take off on just so I can find these little scenes here and there and always keep my gear accessible.

I use my mobile for a GPS in whichever country I am in and usually have it set to the scenic route to wherever the next location I am driving towards a few extra minutes getting there usually mean missing out on this like this pastural setting.

The only thing I could offer to name this location was it was at the crossroads of the Radio Transmitter and the Golf course for Bad Münstereifel if anybody knows exactly leave a comment.

I took this with my D750 and Tamron SP 24-70mm 2.8 G2 Lens at 24mm 1/80, f/11 ISO 100 processed in LR, Topaz Denoise, PS (Lumenzia curves masks and DXO Nik Color Efex)

Disclaimer: Not trying to be realistic in my editing there is enough realism in the world, my style is a mix of painterly and romanticism as well as a work in progress.
