How about something spectacular for a Wednesday, something that can hold you through a few days of what may be boring in comparison. This is a group of barrel cactus, each with two or more blossoms and it seems, every one a different color of shade. While I love it, this group drove me crazy!

It was overcast on the morning I got this shot. The forecast was that this would be the last of the hot days for a while, and that has bearing on any photos of cacti because cacti blooms when it's hot, not necessarily when it's sunny.

With dappled sunlight on patches of flowers, every time I moved a couple of feet, the colors would change. And composition which included these colors meant that I was going to have to include some blossoms that I ordinarily would leave out. That didn't matter: there was no way to exclude any flowers. Look at the difference in the shading of the petals of the center flowers compared with the waxy look of the outside blooms.

Today, May 12, the third day in a row with temperatures only in the low 80s, not one of these flowers were open, and many had dropped.

This was going to be the oxymoronic 20 minute snapshot! That's what it took. Perhaps I could just say, you had to be there...

On a gloomy day, double PN Alcos 8033 and 8025 make a rare appearance on the front of 1921 empty cement to Port Kembla, with 8127 and 8132 behind them. Seen here passing Belfield shortly after their departure from Clyde.

These 80s are usually relegated to shunting duties or at best trailing units if they reach the mainline, and would be pushing 45 years of age at this point.

it's amazing what hot rollers and a half a can of hairspray can do. also, that was a new kids on the block shirt. also, i didn't get any good pictures of my pink legwarmers and jean skirt... but you can just pretend. and be amazed by my hair. :)

Brand new babies just don't get much cuter than that!! Like my hair? =P

While the Kodachrome unit was common enough as was the Grande GP40-2. Something I didn't see too often during the late 80s were the few remaining U33Cs such as the one trailing this train departing West Colton.

This is about as close to a self portrait as you will get from me ;)

A bit of a combination of projects...

This dress cracks me up!

piece #3 - 80s style sweat shirt dress with sequin and bead details

I just had to buy this gorgeous vintage sequined 1980s cocktail dress as soon as I saw it. The colours are so bright and the sequins really catch the light. I love wearing it. I feel so glam!

Oh my gosh I can never decide what shade of pantyhose and which heels to wear though! I spend ages trying different looks and posing in the mirror. Being a woman is so hard!

OK. Believe it or not, you're looking at the internet. Or at least a major part of it... when CERN's last collider was up and running in the late 80s and early 90s, they needed a way to crunch all the data they were getting... so they developed a way for computers to efficiently network and talk to one another. This eventually became the backbone of the internet. CERN's computing center is still one of the 3 main hubs for ALL internet traffic, meaning that you might be connecting through it right now.

This HAL-9000 kind of thing is the user interface for a room full of switches and hubs.

No new builds in this pic, but it's rainy and I can't go outside so I'm working on improving my photography in general.
