The east window above the altar of St Martin-in-the-Fields, an Anglican church in London, England. The window was created in 2008 by Shirazeh Houshiary and Pip Horne. The church itself was built in the years from 1722 to 1726.

Blue or Reef Heron ( Egretta sancta )
As a boy these solitary birds were common and nested within the caves along the cliffs at Tolaga Bay opposite the old wharf...
Today however is a common story, rarely seen and probably slowly disappearing.
I believe the greater presence of White faced Herons is partly responsible along with mammalian predation and human impact.
This bird I saw in less than ideal lighting conditions ,being bright & sunny with the light pouring straight into my lens.
The result could never be more than a glorified silhouette but I had to take the shots due to the birds scarcity...
Red admiral, Vanessa atalanta, Searight Park, Austin. This one looks bright and recently emerged. Found in much of Eurasia, and in North and South America. Has a wide variety of larval host plants, and adults feed on many different flowers, including (here) elbow bush, one of our earliest flowering shrubs.
