South American Comb Duck (f)

(Sarkidiornis sylvicola )

The comb duck, also known as the American comb duck, is an unusual duck found in tropical wetlands in continental South America. It is present in regions of eastern Paraguay, southeastern Brazil, and extreme northeastern Argentina, and is occasionally seen as a vagrant on Trinidad. Males have a large black lump on the bill, dark flanks, and a whitish belly, while females have a plain bill and grey flanks. The comb duck occurs throughout much of South America, rarely straying north to Costa Rica, and is typically found in freshwater rivers, lakes, and marshes
