Black winged Stilt

It rained last night, and it was cool (forties) and drizzly this morning, but I decided to get out, get my walk in, and maybe see some wildlife. Sure enough, this Green Heron was in an oak at the lake, and stayed there long enough for me to ruin 20 shots and get two that were acceptable. Don't you dare ask me if I've posted the one that's "acceptable." This is him, and the only thing missing is a blue sky, but that would be greedy wouldn't it?

I returned to the CN Freeport sub at York Road for the first time since summer. I usually shoot at this spot in the evening as it is one of the few places in Elmhurst where good light can reach the Freeport without being obstructed by trees. Now that the days are getting longer, I’ll be able to reach this spot in time to catch trains in daylight. Here is CN 8022, my first CN thundercab, leading west into Elmhurst, Illinois in golden light on March 13th, 2021.
