The Overland Route's crossing of northeastern Nevada's Pequop Range offers a slightly different take on railroading in grade territory. For westbound trains achieving the apex at Valley Pass the victory is not followed directly by an equally steep journey down grade. Instead for the next 20 miles a gentle profile is the order of business until Moor, where finally what went up must come down.

On a beautiful October afternoon a westbound manifest rounds a large horseshoe curve west of Holborn as the railroad maintains its easy profile over the top of the Pequops. Across the way, the train's swing consist has just come into view.
