HAPPY EASTER to everyone who celebrates the holiday!!!
Agapanthus praecox (common agapanthus, blue lily, African lily, or lily of the Nile) is a popular garden plant around the world, especially in Mediterranean climates. It is native of Natal and Cape of Good Hope in South Africa, local names include agapant, bloulelie, isicakathi and ubani. Most of the cultivated plants of the genus Agapanthus are hybrids or cultivars of this species. It is divided into three subspecies: subsp.praecox, subsp. orientalis and subsp. minimus.
Agapanthus praecox is a variable species with open-faced flowers. It is a perennial plant that can survive up to 75 years. Its evergreen leaves are 2 cm wide and 50 cm long. Its inflorescence is in umbel. The flowers of the agapanthus are blue, purple or white and bloom in the summer. They give capsules filled with fine black seeds (to be kept cool in sand until sowing). Its stem reaches one meter high. Its roots are very powerful and can break concrete.
The plant prefers a well-drained soil, but supports a poor soil. Exposure to full sun is preferable, but it supports partial shade. It does not like to be moved. It can be multiplied by sowing (flowering under 3 to 4 years) or division of tufts. It tolerates drought once well installed, but watering is preferable in case of long dry periods. It overwinters as a stump and therefore completely disappears during the cold months. Contrary to popular belief, this species can withstand wind, frost and cold up to −15 °C provided that the strains are protected for the first two years with mulching. - Wikipedia
The 8 May 1945 saw peace in Europe after almost 6 years of fighting but it was another 4 months before there was peace in Asia. This photo is for all those who fought in World War II and to remember the estimated 70–85 million people (about 3% of the 1940 world population) who gave their lives fighting for their country or died from war-related causes, including genocide, massacres, mass-bombings, disease, and starvation.

In the UK there will be a 2 minute silence at 11am on 8 May to honour the service and sacrifice of the Second World War generation and reflect on the devastating impact Covid-19 has had on so many lives across the world today. www.britishlegion.org.uk/get-involved/remembrance/remembr...

It is not often I sit and visit with the people that are on the boardwalk. Simply most of them are on vacation and I am sure they don't want to be approached by strangers . This couple had a similar interests to me and we had a chance to bond over NASCAR.
It is funny how complete strangers can laugh over the drivers we like and dislike, many of them we have never meet. We discussed tracks and the best places to go see a race.
VE Day Poem
Today we celebrate,
Tomorrow we cheer
For the rest of our days we will live with no fear.
Now that the war is over
We will never forget
These people who gave their lives
For the disastrous threat
She was steaming today. I shot this just North of Mount Pleasant, Michigan.

Black-winged stilt, juvenile. The last time this exotic wader was seen in Berkshire (UK) was 75 years ago. The site and the shyness of the bird made it very difficult and time consuming to photograph but I'm unlikely to ever see another!
The first Dutch village that was liberated during World War II on September 12 1944 was Noorbeek. 75 years later a memorial military convoi rides the same route.

This exposure was taken just after the Golden Gate Bridge 75th Anniversary Celebration, which I attended with good friend Ian (RZ68). These firefighters were responding to a fire that broke out in a trash bin on Fort Baker Pier. I took this shot as one firefighter guided another out of these narrow quarters. I really liked the outcome of this photo and hope you do too. Thanks for looking!

75 years old, tomorrow, the Story Bridge is celebrating with over 60 000 party-goers, today. A closure for the day is allowing Brisbane residents a kilometre long eating, drinking and partying space.
Opened by the Queensland Governor, Sir Leslie Wilson, in 1940, the bridge has become a recognised icon of the city.
Lisunov Li-2T HA-LIX s/n 18433209.
The Li-2 looks like the well-known Douglas DC-3 and over 1,000 engineering changes were made to the original DC-3 drawings.
The Li-2 was in production between 1939 and 1952, and during that period, about 5,000 airframes were manufactured.
The aircraft was delivered to Hungarian Air Force back in 1949, and then it was transferred to Malev in the late 1950’s where it operated under the same registration as it does today. The aircraft was returned back to the military in 1964 when Malev stopped using the type.
The aircraft was retired in 1974 and then displayed in Szolnok before its current operator – the Goldtimer Foundation – transported it to Budaors in 1997 to start its restoration. The Li-2 took off for the first time after its restoration in September 2001, and has been appearing at airshows and operating sightseeing flights since then.
It is the only airworthy Li-2 in Europe.
