Apparently the name kookaburra is a loanword from Wiradjuri guuguubarra, onomatopoeic of its call.

I did not know this.

I saw this gorgeous Kookaburra on the powerlines at Phillip Island last week. The sky was dead blue but I just felt it lacked something until I put a texture over it.

Moments after this, the bird flew to the nearby pole and was joined by two mates where they entertained me for ages with their laughter.
