For my 19000th upload here's something from my collection of acquired prints in the form of Lancaster City Transport Park Royal bodied Guy Arab II 726, FTD 726 pictured inside Kingsway depot, Lancaster. This bus was new in 1943 with a 'utility' Pickering body and rebodied in 1952. This bus was originally numbered 45 and renumbered in 1946, finally being withdrawn in May 1969.
Lancaster numbered its routes between 0 & 14, though 15 was introduced in the early '70s whilst works services were denoted by route letter W as shown on this bus, and S was used for schools and other special services.
Kingsway depot was opened in 1937 and remained in use until 1983 when Lancaster City Council moved all its bus operations into the former Morecambe & Heysham Corporation depot on Heysham Road, Morecambe. Kingsway depot saw little use ofter that, being allowed to fall into disrepair and in recent years most of the depot and adjoining swimming baths, except the facade were demolished, with an apartment complex being built above the former depot whilst the swimming baths are now part of the Kingsway retail park and occupied by P.C. World.
Part of my collection, photographer unknown.
