On May 25, I captured Messier 71 (M 71), a loosely concentrated globular cluster in the constellation Sagitta. I noted it's located approximately 12 000 to 13 000 light‑years away from Earth. M 71 is less dense than many other globular clusters—its stars are more spread out—making it somewhat challenging to delineate its core clearly. It reaches its annual culmination around midnight and is best observed in mid‑July.

A mini-hike with the mini-people today. I found this little treasure and had to capture it for some of my dear flickr friends. A little flare thrown in for the rest of you. :)
So much nicer on Black.

On Houston's northside, UP 680 switches scrap gons out of Commercial Metals at Tower 71 on the West Belt. After wrapping up their work, they'll swing around the corner at Tower 26 nearby to head back to the bottom end of Settegast Yard.
The green signal to the left is a lineup for the Big Boy, which will be passing through in a few minutes on its way to the top end of Settegast Yard.

Sh2-71 is a planetary nebula in the constellation Aquila. It was first found by Rudolph Minkowski in 1946, although he didn't recognise that it was a planetary nebula. It was only in 1959 when Stewart Sharpless independently discovered it that we realised that it might be a planetary nebula. It has an unusually complex morphology which is attributed to a triple star system at its core. It is around 3,260 light years from Earth - so this image shows its appearance around 1,300 years before the birth of Christ.

Sweet childish days, that were as long, as twenty days are now.

With the weather being so balmy and beautifully sunny everyday I've been getting out more and the photos are practically making themselves.. I have a feeling that one day along this 365 project of mine I'll just be hitting a brick wall... (though that wouldn't make a bad picture :p).. but will deal with that when it happens.. until then.. : )
