A small lake or reservoir, surrounded by home-county (Kent, I think) farmland. Shot from above while flying from Kyiv (Kiev), to London, and home.
Shot with my Nikon D40, fitted with a Tamron 70-300mm F4/5.6 DI LD (Nikon AFS) lens and processed in GIMP and Photoscape.
A brief outline from wikipedia:
The swallows and martins, or Hirundinidae, are a family of passerine birds found around the world on all continents except Antarctica. Highly adapted to aerial feeding, they have a distinctive appearance. The term Swallow is used colloquially in Europe as a synonym for the barn swallow. There are around 83 species in 19 genera, with the greatest diversity found in Africa, which is also thought to be where they evolved as hole-nesters. They also occur on a number of oceanic islands. A number of European and North American species are long-distance migrants; by contrast, the West and South African swallows are non-migratory.

Never seen one before, let alone photographed one. A cute little bird about the size of a Wren. I managed to get a few reasonable shots. More to come this week.

According to wikipedia:
The Eurasian eagle-owl (Bubo bubo) is a species of eagle-owl that resides in much of Eurasia.
It is also called the European eagle-owl and in Europe, where it is the only member of its genus besides the snowy owl, it is occasionally abbreviated to just eagle-owl. It is one of the largest species of owl, and females can grow to a total length of 75 cm (30 in), with a wingspan of 188 cm (6 ft 2 in), males being slightly smaller.
This bird has distinctive ear tufts, with upper parts that are mottled with darker blackish colouring and tawny. The wings and tail are barred. The underparts are a variably hued buff, streaked with darker colour. The facial disc is poorly developed and the orange eyes are distinctive.

Easternmost outlying menhir (standing stone) situated within the Merrivale (the pleasant valley) ritual/ceremonial complex, Dartmoor, Devon, UK.
The Merrivale ritual/ceremonial complex includes many of the archaeological features associated with the Neolithic to Middle Bronze Age (about 2500–1000 BC). The monuments comprise of two stone circles, an avenue, a double row, a single row, a large despoiled cist, standing stones and hut-circles.
Aubury Burl says;- 'This splendid complex deserves a lengthy visit' in his book 'A Guide to the Stone Circles of Britain, Ireland and Brittany'........this book has been my guide to stone circles etc. for 17 years now.....well worth investing in!!
