15th June 2017 - Lockheed Martin F-16A Block 20 MLU 'FA-70' of the Belgian Air Components 349 squadron taxis back to the flightline resplendent in her 75th anniversary special scheme.
After 263's crew turned back west with 264 the DASW job got right back to work at Riverside. They spotted up Dead River and gave the reload another switch and then started down to Bellows Falls and North Walpole. Here she is leading five cars out on to the long causeway beside the Connecticut River at about MP B1.7 on modern day VRS' Falls Running Track of the Bellows Falls Subdivision which is the original Rutland Railway Green Mountain mainline.
Due to the normally assigned GMTX geep being down for maintenance the Vermont Railway pressed their ancient Green Mountain Railroad Alco RS1 into freight service on the Bellows Falls switcher all this week. Normally this unit only sees service on the VRS' passenger excursion trains and perhaps use on revenue freights once or twice a year at most. So this week was exceptional, and I'm hard pressed to think of anywhere else in the country an RS1 is used to haul freight anymore.
What is even more special is that this unit is very much on home rails having been built for the Rutland in November 1951. So that means she is approaching her 70th birthday in a few months and has never left the Green Mountain state!

Here you have a glance of the style that was fashionable in Spain back in the 60s and 70s. Aluminium carpentry, tiled walls, bottle bottom window panes, even the curtains look unchanged.
A double exposure (in post) of the lovely white blossom on the trees at Mount Waverley Community Centre today/ I was surprised these are still on the trees so must be a later variety.

NS SD70 2568 leads NS 169 solo over the Great Miami River just south of Miamisburg, OH. Trailing behind the leader are MoW equipment, likely bound for Cincinnati. Recent light, yet steady rains have caused the Miami River to swell a bit.

I dashed out the door with camera pointed upward, when my husband alerted me that Sandhill Cranes were calling in the distant sky. I could not get all of the birds into the shot, but there were approximately 70-80.

This amazing amaryllis is in my kitchen. The kit was given to me at Christmas & I planted the bulb a few days later. I knew this was an unusual variety. Progress was very slow until the first flower stem eventually grew to about 10cm (4 inches) high. After that it grew incredibly quickly & is now almost a metre high. The first bud started to open, then a few more days of suspense. Most sections are now open - but there’s a second bud to follow.
