The London Eye - the big wheel - was erected for the millennium celebrations 15-16 years ago and sponsored by British Airways. It was only going to be for that occasion and then dismantled but there was such a clamour for its continuation that it was retained and is one of London's most popular tourist attractions. In summer the queues are endless.
