Conrail SD50 6744 leads OIBU at Lanesboro, PA on August 4, 1985. Although everyone was there for the Lanesboro Detours, there was also some Conrail action to be caught as well.

NGC 6744 is an intermediate spiral galaxy in the constellation Pavo at a distance of 28 million light-years. One of the largest spiral galaxies in the local universe and its considered very similar to our own Milky Way galaxy.

Quiet little Plovers about the size of a song Thrush that nest on the wide shingle beds of Canterbury rivers, then migrating northward ....

NGC 6744 is a spiral galaxy about 30 million light-years away in the constellation Pavo). It is considered as a Milky Way mimic in our immediate vicinity, displaying flocculent (fluffy) arms and an elongated core. It also has at least one distorted companion galaxy (NGC 6744A) superficially similar to one of the Magellanic Clouds. It was discovered by Scottish astronomer James Dunlop on 30 June 1826.

NGC 6744 is a spiral galaxy aproximately 30 million light-years away from Earth, in the constellation Pavo the Peacock. There is also one distorted companion galaxy (NGC 6744A) superficially similar to one of the Magellanic Clouds orbiting our own Milky Way. It was discovered from Parramatta in Australia by Scottish astronomer James Dunlop on 30 June 1826.

 

As we slowly move towards Summer here in Melbourne, we are starting to get a few clear nights and were able to take advantage of these before we move to daylight savings time. We were able to image NGC 6744 over 3 nights on the

12/09/2023, 15/09/2023 and 16/09/2023 culminating in a total of 10 hours integration time on this object. This is the longest time we have spent on one object since doing the Horse Head nebula several years ago. The extra integration time enable us to bring out a lot more detail than we normally are able to.

Evening sunset beyond the rain clouds that had just blown in....the large dark ominous cloud at the top did indeed rain heavily some time soon after this was taken, but I just liked the way that a gap opened up in the cloud to show a glimmer of the colours of the sun setting. May 2016. West Yorkshire, UK.
