L'impératrice Eugénie en fait son lieu de villégiature, et avec elle toute l'aristocratie européenne fréquente la station balnéaire. Cette activité ne faiblit pas durant la Belle Époque et aujourd'hui encore, l'économie reste tournée vers le secteur tertiaire dont l'hôtellerie de luxe, les soins à la personne et les loisirs marins constituent le vecteur prédominant.

À droite, on aperçoit la passerelle d'acier construite par Gustave Eiffel où il est déconseillé de s'y aventurer par gros temps.

This is probably my second favorite from this day out following the Mass Bay RRE's 'Covered Wagons In The Snow' special on the Conway Scenic's ex Maine Central Mountain Sub behind the matched pair of circa 1949 F7s, Boston and Maine 4266 and 4268. This spot was the idea of a friend who invited us to meet him, but for years I'd been curious about trying a shot here. I always liked the little causeway that runs beside the Saco River on one side and a small pond on the other with large glacial split rock that I've noticed for decades whenever I rode these rails.

The special is seen headed east right at MP 64 and in the distance rises the more than 2700 ft. Iron Mountain at the foot of the Rocky Branch Ridge which is one of three long ridges running off the south flank of mighty Mount Washington.

This is the opposite side of the more famous shot taken from across the Saco from the old Glenn Ellis Campground. Here is one of mine from that spot a few years ago: flic.kr/p/2mAkSHS On the very right side of that image sharp eyes will note this same 64 milepost.
