It seems like this sharp blue SD40, now called an SD40-2, has been avoiding me for an eternity, at least since it came to the Chesapeake & Indiana. it was becoming my White Whale, but I finally found it today just south of Union Mills. It sat in high sun, but my camera seemed to handle the situation very well. TGFD, or thank God for digital. The 6321 started life on the L&N as an SD40, then went through the pains of merger mania, passing from the Seaboard System to CSX, becoming an SD40-2 somewhere along the way, then retirement, finally leased to the CKIN, through the Indiana Box Car company, or IBCX. I don't care what they call her; next goal is to catch her in action.

IBCX 6321, (ex CSXT 8321) painted up for the Chesapeake & Indiana railroad, has just crossed the NS's former NKP Chicago District line and runs adjacent to a recently installed mile long siding, with a cut of empty fertilizer tank cars coming from the Co-Alliance plant in Malden. The searchlight serves as the southbound distant signal, and was recently installed at the time of this photo.
