This little guy is really small, maybe only 1-1/4 - 1-1/2 inch. Either I have a crop of them, or it just seems to hang around lonely - doesn't seem like I've seen any full-sized ones so far this summer. I'm not sure what it's doing either - like it's cleaning its antlers? It was really patient with me too - I kept bothering it trying to herd it into better "poses". Anyway, cropped a lot, particularly because the sun was just hitting the leaves to the right, and maybe glancing its head.
Southern Lapwing, Vanellus chilensis cayennensis, 35cm / 14in. COMMON and conspicuous in pasture in lowlands, and even more COMMON in highland towns, parks and fallow ground, even traffic roundabouts.

Uluru (also known as Ayers Rock) is a large sandstone rock formation in the southern part of the Northern Territory in central Australia. It lies 335 km south west of the nearest large town, Alice Springs. Uluru is sacred to the Pitjantjatjara Anangu, the Aboriginal people of the area. The area around the formation is home to an abundance of springs, waterholes, rock caves and ancient paintings. Uluru is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Uluru and Kata Tjuta, also known as the Olgas, are the two major features of the Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park.
