Flight of the Parakeet

Finishing off the design of the second edition of my first book, Richmond park. Down to the last 60 books of 6000, so time to think about the new version. Here is a new shot that may be included. What do u think?

I like to think the unofficial reason for the alien parakeet population in #London is due to #jimihendrix

Releasing two of his in London in the 60s. This one could be a descendant :-) I will be at Richmond Riverside music festival this Saturday and Sunday, so come along and enjoy and say hello.

When I went to Amsterdam. I had the camera of my wife (Sony 6000) so I did few photos taking the opportunity of the warm and nice day. For this photo I did not use filters, instead I used the smooth reflection application available into the Sony camera. I was creative masking the canal boat with extra colour. Comments welcomed

The Terracotta Army or the "Terra Cotta Warriors and Horses", is a collection of terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first Emperor of China. Of the 6000 so far recovered, they are all different and unique

I took this with a (get ready for it) Nikon d5300 and a Sigma 70-300 apo lens! I stacked 14 photos at iso 6000 so it is a little bit noisy still.

Not alot of new things to post at the moment as still sorting, cleaning and rebuilding old sets. Got a little distracted with my town and added a build from the Idea book 6000. So many good memories with these things.

Fly to the moon here

. . . I obviously cheated here. But I didn't mean to. Oh, wait, yes I did. Okay, look, I really stink at taking moon shots. I've tried, playing with the aperture and shutter settings, but still haven't figured out how to do it. I mean, I might as well be taking a shot of a flashlight, what, with the way the moon always seems to wash out. Some of this undoubtedly has to do with not having a high quality zoom or telephoto lens. Working on that though. The one I want only costs, like, $6000. So, by the next millennium, I should be able to afford it. No problem.

Anyway, I tried taking the shot with the palm trees in the foreground. That came out okay though the moon was totally washed out and looked like a huge spotlight.. And when I tried to adjust the aperture and shutter settings, the moon came out clearly though the rest of the scene was buried in the blackness.

So, I decided to combine the two different shots by super-imposing the moon shot with the palm tree shot, and this is what I ended up with. If nothing else, the clouds came out kind of cool, what, with the glow of the moon and all. Anyway, here it is.

So there.

- "Zoe, you are the only person I know that looks good with no make up and messy hair."

- Tatyana Monestime.

... thanks, I guess?

Today was BUSY. Lots of arguing with the 'rent about Ecuador and whether or not I'm going to go. It costs just about $6000, so I'm not sure if it's worth it ..

Anyways - Tomorrow? JOB INTERVIEW WITH MY BEST FRIEND !!

Woooooohooooo!

We made an awesome plan today (as we talked on the phone for hours) which I hope we follow through with.

Back to doing homework now!

The 1.6 engine is a punchy performer, with enough torque at low enough down the rev range, and a nice sound with a burble when the throttle is lifted.

However the gears aren't too good for motorway driving, with approx 3200rpm at 70ish, which is quite loud. Saying that though, the engine is at max power at 6000....so Fiat clearly made the engine enjoy being worked hard.

This engine bay was absolutely filthy when I first looked at it, it took a whole can of Jizer to get it to this.

Brooke was calling “Hunter”, waving some doggy treats and calling instructions to Jane. I had just seen Jane run down a steep slope to try and catch her dog. Just a few strides down the muddy incline Jane slipped and fell on her bum. Brooke could definitely see the funny side of it.

As I passed Brooke she greeted me and I made comment on how they had something to remember the day by. We met again at the the top of the Tor. Jane had been reunited with Hunter. I wanted to include both friends in my project and wondered if I might be able to talk to each of them as individuals. Jane agreed to go for a little walk while I chatted with Brooke.

Brooke is from Goondiwindi, where her parents have an air conditioning business and run a waterpark. She was waterskiing at 5 years of age. The town has a population of less than 6000, so Brooke went to a boarding school on the Gold Coast. This is where she met her friend Jane. They have come to the UK for a gap year before going to university.

Brooke showed quite an interest in my project asking whether people refused to let me take their photo. I told her that I had about 20 people declined in my first hundred but that almost everyone says “yes” these days. I went on to say that I didn't know whether it had to do with me or the people that I chose to ask; perhaps it's a bit of both.

Brooke had leukemia in her childhood and this was followed with tests through to her early teens. She has since been given the all clear. Having experienced ill health and hospitals when growing up, Brooke would like to work with children, either in education or health or both.

Brooke is in good health now and is very active; enjoying swimming, rowing and netball. In her gap year she will be a house parent and will be coaching sport. When we had finished chatting and I had taken a few photos, Brooke went to find Jane and take over looking after Hunter.

Thank you Brooke for agreeing to be in my project. It was good to meet you today. I hope that you have a great gap year and wish you success in the future.

Local entertainment is a big part of rural county fairs. Here at the Bear Lake County Fair cowboy music is popular and one of our favorite groups is Saddle Strings. Here they are on an outdoor stage with a local violinist / fiddler, Jamie Bartschi, on the left. Cowboy music is very different from the usual commercial country and western stuff. It is heavy on story-telling with ranching, horse, and historical themes that lots of people can relate to in our rural Idaho valley. Attending a late concert here is an experience. Our elevation is nearly 6000' so it can be cold, and sometimes thundershowers compete with the musicians. Somehow, that just makes it more memorable.

Ok, actually, I just had 7956 Twitter followers as of breakfast time this morning, But I didn't get strawberry pancakes for #7000 or #6000...so I was overdue.

Every time you pick up another 1,000 Twitter followers, the company treats you to a free order of strawberry pancakes. It's precisely the sort of exciting, out-of-the-box thinking that any post-bubble Web 2.0 social portal needs to demonstrate if it's going to successfully chase the long tail.

In fact, I'm such a valuable supporter of Twitter that I'm the one who devised and announced this official company policy. I even helpfully published the CEO's home address along with the announcement. I'm certain that he'll want to process all of those receipts and write out the reimbursement checks personally.

(As soon as Twitter realizes that i've made this offer on their behalf.)

Behold, the strawberry pancakes served by Snoopy's Diner of North Kingstown, Rhode Island. Light, fluffy cakes with plenty of plump, juicy berries baked straight in.

"How's your food?" the waitress asked.

I looked down and sighed before responding.

"I'm very sad," I announced. "After I eat this last pancake, I won't have any more pancakes left."

"Can I bring you some more?"

I considered this.

"Check back with me in about two weeks," I said.

Yesterday , while wondering how to interpret this week's theme for Flickr Friday : 'A stroke of luck' , I noticed that my picture "Golden Goblet" (made for the group 'Smile on Saturday' ) was selected for 'Explore' . I made a picture of my computer screen . This morning the number of views for that image was well over 6000! So I decided to call this my 'stroke of luck' !

---------------------------------

maybe you're thinking now: oh no! Nella spam!

well.... no! there won't be any pics more of Nella.... why? my camera is broken ¬¬ and I can't take pics, so

the memory card also is broken, with more than 7000 pics that I don't upload to my computer, and my computer photos are also deleted, they was more than 6000....

so, I have around 20 edited pics on my laptop, but I've uploaded the majority.... well, I haven't got any pic to upload, only one or two xD

Cut away section of a 61xx series Tokyo metro car, circa 1973. The car actually bears number 6000, so unless that is a dummy number, my guess is that this is the preceding model to the 61xx series (some pictures of which appeared earlier in this album) dating back to just before 1973. This car had a drive simulator, where people could actually pretend to drive the train with a computer screen simulating the actual run. There was a railway employee manning it and who was setting things up for the visitors. But with people going in one at a time, and each 'driving session' taking no less than five minutes, and with at least two kids ahead of me, it was taking too long and so I decided to pass This is in the Metro Museum in the Kasai district of Tokyo, Japan which traces the history of Tokyo's subway system starting from it's commencement in 1927 right up to the present day. Hi all

Today's update is a milestone for me.........last week after a long time saving.....I took the plunge and jumped into the murky dark art world of DSLR's..........

Oh.........what came over me........don't worry my trusty pani FZ38 will always be with me.

For lanscapes, sunsets, sunrises and close up work.....my trusty pani will be gainfully employed.

There are things my bridge will do that I miss in most DSLR......even the pro models!

But I'll leave those comparisons until another day when I have more time.......

I bought a Nikon D7000 last weekend with a standard 18 to 105mm kit lens......

But sadly I had only about 2 hours play with it in the whole weekend......

One reason I never said to anyone I had the camera......I needed more time to try it and start to re-learn everything. And yesterday I picked up a telephoto lens ( Sigma 150-500mm )

So with the weather man saying today was going to be a gorgeous sunny day (ahhhh.....he was so wrong!!! ) it was sunny for half an hour.............I was really keen to get out today.

So my plan was to do from sun up to sun down.....taking in the sunrise and sunset ( did I say before the weather man got it wrong ) as well as going to a number of locations to try the new camera set-up.

Anyway I was up early making up my days kit.........rucksack containing flask of tea, corn beef sandwiches, roast chicken crisps, two fruit drinks......food sorted for the day!

One laptop......in case I run out of room on the memory cards and needed to transfer files while I was out and about. ( hey....it's a new camera so still learning how memory hungry it is! )

So there I was at the beach ready for a glorious sunrise ( glorious it wasn't! ) but did get a few shots with my old FZ38

Then I went on to the main event.......wanted to try the new camera on the wildlife along the cliffs.

With a lot of trial and error some shorts came out ok......and others like a whole set of Meadow pipit shots....which looked gorgeous through the view finder......until I checked them on the screen ....and found I had knocked the dial to full manual and they were all burnt out.... dohh!

Anyway to cut a long day short.......have some nice Stonechat pictures which I'll post another time.....did some Lizards with the old FZ ( and yep the little reptiles are still out and about )

Managed to take some nice Dartford warbler captures.....since being Dorset I have seen many but never managed to get a decent shot of these rare little birds.......so really happy to see one today and do justice to these lovely little birds.

Also went out to my fav spot for seeing Common darters this year........sadly :-( I didn't see any.

They've had a awesome year.......in this location I've seen them from June till the end of November.....almost a week shy of six months.

Anyway the sad loss of dragons until next spring was more than made up with a lovely and relaxed sighting of a male Roe Deer.

I've tweaked all the shots from RAW to JPEG and added some adjustments like sharpening and contrast. In the case of the Dartford warbler I've left the un-cropped version for you to see as well.

With the type of sensor you get in the D7000 you can crop a bit without too much loss clarity.

In the grand scheme of things the lens I bought is relatively cheep compared to buying a Nikon.....if I wanted a really good Nikon with this reach I wouldn't get much change out of £6000

So I'm happy with this Sigma.... the roe deer was taken at well over 60ft away in woodland on a cloudy day......so with a little tweaking and sharpening and a close crop....they came out really well.

With two kids in the scout troop, wife kinda got roped into volunteering.

Wife and teacher convinced a classmate to join the Scouts, too.

We were sitting at 5100' and the cloud ceiling was at about 6000' so our views were a bit less spectacular than 4 days earlier. But I am always amazed at how beautiful it can be up in these mountains even when you can't see very much of them!

10 Oct 2013

Just some awesome random dirt road in the South Warner mountains, MODOC National Forest. Elevation is well above 6000', so you know this area gets some serious snow in winter.

I walk to work through Indraji Nagar slums, though I can come directly via Bandra Hill Road but I prefer the noisy back lanes , I see life face to face and as I always carry my camera and shoot what touches my human soul, I guess I am as opinionated in the shots I take as I am in my blogs..

The only problem is that all that I shoot on the streets is part of Firoze Shakir street photography set at Flickr , after uploading them here I move ahead, so most of these pictures are devoid of text, I thought I would work on them through Picnic which edits within Flickr but my system began crashing I gave up...there are over 7500 pictures , competing with my Hijra pictures 11000 and Marziya Shakir set over 9000 pictures.

And to keep these pictures viewable I will have to keep on paying 25 US$ every year or they wont be visible at all, I have been lucky my son and my mentor Dr Glenn Losacks contribution to the Pro membership makes it possible.. you would have not seen any of this without their contribution to my blogs shelf life..

I cross blog from Flickr.

I had a site Firoze Shakir .com I gave it up I could not afford the annual fees of Rs 6000.. So I am in a way grateful to Flickr.. my account is marked safe I follow Flickr guidelines.

But yes you cannot comment on my Flickr posts , simply because I do not want to give importance to your hate comments , have faced racism all over the net including Poem Hunter ..so now I dont want to take shit no more ..you dont like my pictures move along dont fuck my brains by asking me to be you, I would not want to have the fucked parents you had who taught you to hate Muslims or Shias or Indians or Hijras as in my case. Yes I have locked my Flickr comment box I strangled it with my own hands. I choked its voice for good.

But yes I miss comments from my best friends but than hate on Flickr or elsewhere on the net is greater than love..

At Facebook where I pimp a part of me without commercial gain I allow comments.

I allow comments on Twitter and Google Buzz.

I prefer Google Buzz to Twitter .

At Word Press at Blogspot I have locked my comment box.

I dont sell my pictures I dont sell my words but I am open to a joint collaboration with any publishing house of repute to publish my poems and my hijra blogs..

I need to buy a new camera and a laptop as the profession I am in is now just a battered dream, running around to get the hard money I worked for from people whom I gave credit.

I also have to pay back people who stood by me during my time of need.

Blogging is a holistic healing tool you wont find this blog on any newspaper of Mumbai.. not yet up for Sale.,

The hike usually coincides with Mother's Day so there's always some performance for the parents.

Each troop taking a group picture.

It was a bit damp and foggy but thankfully not raining hard like last year.

Group portrait at the exit gate of the hiking trail.

Made sure everyone got on their assigned bus.

Taking the loop route back down towards the visitors center.

Went at our own (slow) pace but being the second time at least we knew how far we had to go.

O.K. I finally got a macro lens for my Sony Alpha 6000. So I will apologize in advance for the potential avalanche of macro photos which may appear.

But, I'm like a kid in a candy store with no adult present.

Made sure everyone got on their assigned bus.

The park is in a low spot amongst the hills so the fog just kinda settled in on top of us.

wrote a cheque for £4500 but turns out it had to be £6000 so thought I'd burn the other one :P

Helping to shephered the youngest Scouts up the mountain.

Helped convince a classmate to join the troop.

Can see the end of the trail from here.

Taking the loop route back down towards the visitors center.

Seconds later we saw a helicopter rescue... Apparently getting rescued

out of the canyon is $6000+, so the lesson is: stay hydrated
