This hotel was built in the 1920's and must have been a beauty in those days. Located in one of the most beautiful places around and it still has it's grace. It was very popular back in the days and a lot of wealthy and royal visiters booked a night in here.
Unfortunately it had to close in the 1960's and nobody knows what to do with this beautiful but detriorated building. Well, almost nobody except us...

I've been slowly working my way through the images from my trip to San Francisco and down the California Coast. Of the photos I've processed so far, this one is my personal favorite. I think it has a lot to do with the day we went to Muir Woods. It had been raining on and off the day before and through the night. The morning we got to Muir Woods the rain and fog were just clearing out, and all the plants and trees were covered with dew. It felt almost like a rain forest and the height and density of the trees makes it feel closed off from the rest of the world.
This is still a bit of an experiment, but I've started playing with black and white. This is the first time I've processed a black and white photo with Photoshop. It's about as far away from my typical colorful HDRs as I could possibly get, but as I've progressed in photography I've become more interested in black and white. It really forces you to break down the image and focus on composition and tonality.
I was also able to finally get some use out of the ND filters I've been carrying in my bag for months. I think I've only used them 2 or 3 other times, and never ended up posting any of the shots. In B&W the long exposure helps to further isolate the subject from the water and sky. I'm not sure yet if I'm ready to jump head first into the world of black and white, or just take a detour every once in awhile, but for a first attempt, it was kind of fun.
I took this from a bridge over the Chicago River. Every time a car would drive over the bridge it would shake the whole bridge, including the camera. I had to try and time the start of the bracket with the red light at the end of the bridge, then hope cars didn't come around the corner from the other direction. I think I ended up getting 2 clear shots out of 15 or 20 tries.
