I am still a bit in shock at what we were able to witness. My friend and I went on a spur the moment trip to Big Island of Hawaii to document a bit of the Kilauea Volcano action going on right now. The first day, June 16, 2018, we chartered a helicopter with Paradise Helicopters and the second day we did the Lava Boat Tour. It was an incredible experience, to say the least, but also very eye-opening and pretty sad. Seeing the area where over 400 (over 600 now I believe) homes were taken out was pretty crazy. Seeing how fast the lava was flowing out the fissure 8 was even crazier, as seen in this collection. But seeing Kapoho Bay completely filled within days and Leilani Estates practically gone, was definitely the most shocking part. I guess we have to still remember these islands were formed by lava to begin with.

“Since May 3, 2018, Kilauea has erupted more than 110 million cubic meters of lava. This fissure has produced a lava fountain pulsing to heights of 185 to 200 feet (55 to 60 meters).”

These shots was taken on June 16 & 17, 2018.

Behind this mask there is more than just flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea... and ideas are bulletproof.

Remember, remember the fifth of November the gunpowder treason and plot. I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.

1st afternoon with the new 5DSR having a go at birds. The sun had already dipped behind the mountain behind me so i had to raise the ISO up to 3200 to get a fast enough shutter, 1/1250 at F4 with Canon 70-200mm F2.8 L non IS. Pretty damn happy with this camera already. Tried to smooth this out with the noise in Photoshop (may have over done it ????). Full frame (no crop at 200mm). Playing around in Photoshop really notice the difference to my old 5D2 and 60D. A whole new editing procedure will need to be learnt my thinks. Cant wait to get the Sigma 150-600mm lens soon and try that on this body.

The TSE 45 was also tested. Worked fine and I could do this in one shot with forward tilt to get everything in focus before stopping down

Finished in 2012, these four photographs make-up a collaborative mural found along Rainier Ave. in Seattle. It was created by the muralist group called "Predators of the Wild" (Xavier Lopez, Maggie Harbaugh, Andrew Miller, Starheadboy, Narboo, Ryan Henry Ward).

Sunday Evening Post, Vol.2, No.9: Trading Places

Bought a 5D Mark IV last week as a back up body, especially for low light situations now that Short Eared Owl season is almost upon us!

I don't normally venture above 1600 ISO with the 5DSr and try and keep to 800 ISO or less as a rule. From this test and the cropped section below you can see why!

I am very pleased with the 5D Mark IV so far, especially being able to use all 61 focus points at F8. I have been trying the 2x extender with my 600mm lens and AF aquisition and tracking seemed pretty good.

Reviews on line often say that ISO 3200 is usable for the 5D Mark IV for birds in flight and I think they might be right.

Photos were taken with the 600mm F4 II + 2x III.

This was a long time in the making. There are not head sculpts for James Caan and John Cazale so these are the best I could find. I processed Fredo's facial features a little bit to get somewhat closer. I'll take more photographs but this is good for now.
