USS Maine Monument at the Merchant's Gate entrance to Central Park on 59th St in Manhattan.The monument honors 290 (of a crew of 355) American officers,sailors,and marines who died in the sinking of the USS Maine naval ship at Havana Harbor in 1898.The crowning sculpture on top of the pylon is a gilded bronze statue of Columbia Triumphant (female figure) being drawn by a seashell cgchariot of hippocampi (mythological creatures with the upper body of a horse and ending with the tail of a dolphin or fish).The statue was cast in 1912 and dedicated in 1913.
The 59th Street Bridge also known as the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge which connects Manhattan and Queens in New York City.

This is the pedestrian/bike path for the 59th Street Bridge. Back in the seventies and eighties during my more youthful days weather permitting I would use this path often to bike ride home when I use to work late night shifts preferring the exercise then take my chances of getting robbed and or assaulted riding the subway home during the crime filled 70's, 80's. Back in the earlier history of the bridge this is where trolley cars use to shuttle people across the bridge.
