On the seventh day of my Markha Valley trek in Hemis National Park, we left our camp at Nimaling (4,850 m, 15,912 ft.) and climbed eastward some 2.8 km (1.7 mi.) to the Gongmaru La (5,290 m, 17, 356 ft.), on the watershed between the Markha Chu (Markha River) and the Indus River, and then descended northeastward some 7 km (3.4 mi.) along the Martselang Chu to to camp at Chukyursmo (4,150 m, 13,615 ft.). This shot looks west from the Gongmaru La to an unnamed peak (c. 5,690 m, 18,668 ft.) between the Markha Chu and the Zanskar River.

CP 5690 and a PLM leaser lead CP/D&H train 270 at Hunt Hollow Road in Dalton, NY on June 28, 1992. The Eastbound track was lightly used at this point in time, and the train is running on the faster track #1. I never caught any MLW power leading on the Southern Tier, in spite of many efforts to catch the CP/D&H trains at the time. I did score big with the MLW power on the D&H between Binghamton and Cobleskill in 1992.
The climb out of Lind didn't seem to be much of a chore for the head end trio on GHWMINB924H as they passed the 88.8 MP near the top of Providence. Most of the train was shrouded in a cloud shadow which I think made an interesting background, but dealing with the heat distortion was a bit of a nuisance for the photographer
