Looking out across the Cook Strait to Mana Island and eventually the South Island. I can't imagine there are too many winter days as good as this, so the luck is holding.

Via Lactea - The Milky Way, the Galaxy that contains our Solar System, and is one of many, the Nebulae, these are hazy clouds of light formed from Gasses, and the Core (Galactic Centre) which can only be seen at certain times of the year.

This was my first time out to try my hand at Astro Photography which I said I was going to have a go at this year, but as lockdown put paid to most activities along with work and weather conditions it hadn't really come together until now, a good practice session giving me food for thought on the next location and how I can refine the next Image.

i've had a heavy heart lately. about a year ago (the week before thanksgiving), some of you may remember that my youngest brother was trapped in an avalanche shoot on a mountain ridge. he trapped there for 15+ hours. the temps were well below freezing. his dog had slipped while hiking and he went after him and they both tumbled many feet down an avalanche shoot. after many hours of men searching for him with no avail, they final found him by locating him with the cell phone towers to his cell phone. we were in brief contact with him about every hour (we didn't want to waste his battery). search and rescue helped and sat with us every single minute. once they found him they decided it was impossible to reach him b/c he was numerous feet straight down. they tried for hours to get a helicopter, but the winds were too strong and everyone refused. we thought we lost him. i even called my husband and told him that he was going to die.....hours later (5am), a airforce blackhawk helicopter agreed to come get him (from washington, we are in montana). he was rescued....and was wonderful! not hurt, but cold and sad....he lost his best friend (his dog), which still makes my heart hurt. he turns 22yrs. next week and i'm thankful for every day!

well, last week a couple hiking in the same place with their dog had an eerily similar story. they slipped off the edge in the same hiking area my brother was at one year ago. search and rescue (the same guys that helped us) worked on finding them for hours.....unfortunately their outcome was much different. they had died from the impact of the fall. their dog was found wondering around a day later. my heart breaks and my prayers go out to this family. i have really realized how lucky we were and how fragile life is. i hope their family finds peace soon.....

i think i just needed to write this down. thanks for reading....

It was at this particular point that I became alarmed by both his speed and proximity and had swiftly decided to move along the bank. It was just as well I did because he climbed out where I had been standing. Ho, hum.

MILW 0-6-0 engine #1487 sits in Janesville, WI on 8/19/54. Another engine is pictured in the background on the turntable. #1487 was an I5a class switcher built in the Milwaukee shops 1912 and scrapped 12/31/55. Thanks to Tom Burg for information about the engine.

I took the train today from Glasgow to Edinburgh. It was cheaper than parking in Edinburgh as well. Although not quite the longest single rail route in the UK the 09.00 Glasgow Central to Penzance finally arrives at its destination at 20.55.

Thanks to Dave for the correction.

Decided to fulfill a childhood desire and buy the Time Cruisers sets on eBay. I managed to get all four and the collectors bin for $55 thanks to a few missing parts. Will use these in a couple of pictures as is before I improve them.

Aiming for atleast the Time Twisters Twisted Time Train next. :D

A backlit shot I'm rather fond of - an up express in the spring of 1978.

The train was the 1W96 16.00 Weymouth Quay to London Waterloo.

It was unusual in that it booked for a class 33/1 only as far as Bournemouth and was booked to change locos to an ED. Time allowed at Bournemouth was 17.14 to 17.22 with a WTT footnote saying loco change to EDL. It was a dated service that only operated up until 27th October. Departure from Southampton was scheduled for 17.55.

Thanks to 'Marra Man' for the WTT info.

Came across this little gem on a tour of Peggy's Cove. Loved the name of the boat as well as the wonderful green paint. It didn't look like it has seen the water for quite some time - I wonder if that means its owner fulfilled their dream when they turned 55...

Thanks for stopping by - have a great day!!

I just bought an external flash for the first time. I've been shooting most of my photos with no flash at all until now. I never wanted to invest the hundreds of dollars into Nikons Flashes but decided to try out a cheaper option. I ended up going with the Neewer Speedlite 750II for only $55. Thanks to Isaiah Jones for letting me practice and figure out how flashes work.

THERMO industrial heater panel can be hanged from the ceiling and it’s the best choice if we would like to heat only particular places. It can be placed in factories, industrial premises, stores, rarely used offices, shops, or shopping centres.

The heating element and the radiating element of the THERMO heating panels are made of silvered aluminium that are in immediate contact with the surrounding air. This makes possible the outstanding heating performance of the device.

The heater heats up the lower temperature space under the panel with longwave infrared radiation.

An advatage is that human body feels the radiated area more comfortable thanks to the infrared radiaton without heating up the surrounding air (accordingly, human body feels the 17 degree air temperature as it would be 20 degrees in the radiated area).

Another advantage that heat is distributed evenly in the entire area. The industrial heater panel doesn’t make noises and doesn’t stir the dust. Its installation is simple and cheap.

THERMO heater system consists of modular panels, so you can install one single element or you can combine several elements into a unit upon request.

You can run industrial heater panels from single-phase power (230 V), or from three-phase power (400 V), too. Depending on their performance, the models contain filament: 1 (HT 22), 2 (BT 39, HT 39) or 3 (HT 55).

Thanks to this formation, the electric consumption of the heater can be reduced in the spring and autumn season without installing a thermostat in the outside.

Just for order

Arvin, my son!!! was delivered at 11 Dec 2007 21:55!! thanks for all of our friends and family's support!! Arvin want to say hi to everyone~~~

I really had a difficult time choosing which photo I would submit since I recently went on a hiking trip to Sugarloaf Mountain, MD and saw some beautiful sights. cc welcomed.

Also submitted for Kim Klassen's Texture Tuesday 10/2/2012. I used her texture "Urban" in two layers. The first I used as Overlay at 100%. The second, I used Linear Burn at 55%.

After our exhausting harbor and beach GI Joe action wear fashion shoots, fried stuff and fresh air at Berth 55. (Thanks, Dave! And we'll do the pho another time.)

In retrospect, I don't know why I didn't take a photo of the food. Guess I just wanted to eat it. And it doesn't really look that spectacular. It looks fine for what it is, which is a pile of fried marine organisms, on top of a pile of fries. Nothing too fancy.
