The quiet of an early morning on the Helmstetter Farm is broken by the thunder of Western Maryland H-6 2-6-6-2 #1309 making time heading north with empty coal hoppers on November 6, 2022. This was taken as part of a Trains Magazine sponsored photo charter. The Helmstetter Farm is now under new ownership, but the iconic American railroading scene it provides still soldiers on.

Still wearing its 'as delivered' red frame stripe, UP 5444 and a trio of SD70Ms, drop down grade between Allard (Bealville) and Caliente with westbound tonnage bound for Roseville, California. This photo was taken from above tunnel 1, in the distance a sharp eye will spot the train's rear DPU which is approaching tunnel 2.
This was an early attempt at getting away from the more 'traditional' Tehachapi locations that I had grown up with :}
