Lake Creek Falls, near Triangle Lake, Oregon, has been a popular swimming and picnicking spot since the early 1900's. However, swimming in the swift, shallow water near the falls can be extremely risky. Visitors are encouraged to use extreme caution at all times.
In the fall and winter, this site is a great spot to catch the amazing show put on by Coho and Chinook salmon and steelhead as they migrate upstream to spawn. In 1989, the Bureau of Land Management built a concrete fish ladder at this site, opening up more than 110 miles of stream habitat to fish.

Nella primavera 2013, dopo tre anni di cantiere tra scavi e restauri il monumento tornerà a essere visibile a tutti.
Le celebrazioni per il bimillenario di Augusto stanno per svelare il loro primo grande evento: l'apertura della Basilica Giulia, monumento tra i più straordinari del Foro romano, profondamente legato alla figura del primo imperatore di Roma che la "ereditò" da Giulio Cesare per ampliarla e trasformarla nel più grande tribunale di Roma. I lavori di restauro, iniziati nel 2010 dalla Soprintendenza ai beni archeologici con un finanziamento complessivo di 850mila euro, sono prossimi alla conclusione con l'obiettivo di restituirla al pubblico entro la primavera del 2013. Un vero traguardo, visto che per la Basilica Giulia si tratta del primo intervento sistematico di restauro da quando è stata scavata alla metà dell'800. Ma il cantiere della Basilica, che deve il suo nome a Cesare che ne avviò i lavori nel 54 a. C. per poi essere ricostruita da Augusto, è solo una prima fase del più ambizioso progetto di recupero di tutta l'area nordovest del Foro romano, chiusa da secoli, con la prospettiva entro il 2013 di aprire i percorsi originali più antichi, tra il "Vicus Tuscus" e il "Clivo Capitolino".
"L'idea è di ricollegare il Foro romano con le pendici del Campidoglio consentendo la fruizione pubblica soprattutto del Vico Jugario, l'antichissimo asse via¬rio che conduceva al Tevere, intensamente utilizzato almeno a partire dall'età arcaica - annuncia la soprintendente Mariarosaria Barbera - Infatti, le campagne di scavo hanno evidenziato un bacino stratigrafico di ben nove metri, con testimonianze che partono dal VI secolo a. C. e giungono fino all'età moderna". Con la sua estensione mozzafiato quasi da stadio (lunga oltre cento metri e larga oltre cinquanta), la Basilica Giulia ha avuto bisogno di due cantieri paralleli di scavo e restauro, diretti da Maddalena Scoccianti, affiancata dalla restauratrice Giovanna Bandini, che hanno restituito tutta la complessità del monumento: "Cuore della Roma giudiziaria, qui la folla si assiepava sotto il doppio porticato per assistere ai processi e vedere dal vivo gli inquisiti più famosi - racconta l'archeologa Ida Sciortino - E tra una sentenza e l'altra giocare a dama sulle tabule lusorie visibili ancora oggi".
BASILICA GIULIA TRA MARMI COLORATI E MURA COLOSSALI
A dare la percezione dell'imponenza architettonica ci pensano ora le tabernae d'età augustea sull'angolo nordovest, una sequenza vertiginosa di mura¬ture di blocchi di travertino e tufo alte oltre 15 metri, coronate da archi giganteschi rivestite di stucchi su intonaci, liberate dagli interri che l'hanno occultate per secoli, a svelare il primo dei due livelli della Basilica: "Le tabernae svolgevano una funzione di collegamento tra la basilica e gli assi viari del Foro - racconta Sciortino - Inoltre, con un sistema di rampe di scale erano i punti di accesso ai livelli superiori". Sul versante sud, splende ora sul podio rialzato il pavimento originale con riquadri geometrici di marmi, dal pavonazzetto all'africano e giallo antico: "Abbiamo recuperato i nuclei originali dei gradini e le lastre di marmo che li rivestivano, compreso il condotto fognario che smaltiva le acque", avverte la responsabile Patrizia Fortini. E spiccano ora messi in sicurezza i resti sotterranei più antichi: la casa di Scipione l'Africano su cui, come racconta Tito Livio venne eretta la Basilica Sempronia, demolita poi da Cesare.

Margutta 54’s Superior Suite is a blend of old-world charm and stylish sophistication. Two lined up and packed in tightly, now, as is the case for many of these museums. Here, under active restoration, are two very different buses with their own differing legacies: to the left, South Yorkshire Transport's 1781, a bus I'm familiar with from my last visit to the SYTM. As late as 2022, 1781 was still panelled up in full Harpur’s of Derby livery, but it seems a comprehensive effort to restore the bus into SYPTE condition is now well underway by the trusted hands here. To the right, meanwhile, is Sheffield's last single-deck AEC - former Sheffield Corporation no. 54. Work, too, seems to be commencing on that. Suppose their turn at the front of the queue is now!
Two buses now presumably undergoing deep restoration at the South Yorkshire Transport Museum, preserved South Yorkshire Transport 1781, a 1981 Alexander AL-bodied Leyland Atlantean, is seen parked alongisde Sheffield Transport 54, a 1970 Park Royal-bodied AEC Swift, noted as the last of its type to operate in Sheffield in 1982.

West Pond, Parsonsfield, Maine.
At 1:54 A.M. October 16th the October Big Blow came roaring through Maine.
I was awakened by a high gust of wind that literally shook the whole house and caused limbs and acorns to shower onto our roof.
A few minutes later there was another gust of wind and a loud boom as a leader on our maple tree in the front yard broke off causing it to crash down through the power lines where it became tangled and suspended just above our Chevy Blazer, I thought for sure that it was crushed but the huge leader getting hung up in the power lines saved it.
The local fire chief and one of the volunteer firefighters showed up around 2:30 A.M. to check our well-being and let us know that just down the road from our house a utility pole had it's top sheared off and the lines where lying on the ground arching and burning wet leaves and pine needles causing a lot of smoke.
They had to return to that scene and stand by and stop any traffic from using the road at that point.
Obviously we lost power but with flashlights in hand we inspected the damage but really could not tell the extent until it got light around 5:30 A.M..
I took some photos of the damage and clean up by the Lucas Tree Co. and CMP.
It's not everyday or night that a 30+ foot tree limb falls into your power lines right in front of your home and causes this kind of damage, unless you live in a hurricane prone area.
Our October Big Blow has been known to pack winds up to 76 mph and comes without fail every October and it did just that early this morning.
