A delightful little tiny Suzuki Alto, dating from the late 70s/early 80s. This had a tiny 539cc engine with three cylinders, and is very similar to the Subaru 200 I spotted a few days ago. Not many of these old ones left, as people tend not to keep old superminis, normally larger or more luxurious cars survive better. This one is clearly heavily used, as is shown by the dents and rusting.
These have miniature wheels! Interestingly, this one is not "European spec", even though I spotted it in Greece. Some European models had larger wheels and bumpers, which this doesn't have. This four door "hatchback" is not a true hatchback, as only the window opens, and not the whole rear section.
This is fantastically retro in a lovely brown colour!
According to wiki, this is the last of the line of the early generation of Jimny. The very early models had a two-stroke 359cc engine and were sold as kei-car in the home market. That was replaced with a 539cc and eventually a 797cc engine, which is the version that is in this fine example. All of them were dreadfully slow but reasonable capable off-road.
Seen in a leafy part of North London, it stood out amongst the Lexus 4x4 and German cars parked in the street.

The four-door version of the SS20 Suzuki Fronte 7-S. This has the 539cc two-stroke T5A engine and passed the 1978 emissions rules. The clunky grey plastic on the trailing edge of the rear door is to hide the "coke-bottle" styling of the LC20 Fronte which the 7-S is based on.
Rear view of Suzuki Fronte 7-S two-door Custom, with the 539cc two-stroke engine. This is from a February 1979 catalog, when the all-new SS30 Alto / Fronte was just around the corner.
The first Suzuki-branded 4-wheel drive, the LJ Series, was introduced in 1970. They had a 359, then 539cc 2 stroke engine (a 800cc 4 stroke engine available from 1977).
This second generation 4WD Jimny was built from 1981-98, the first of them, the SJ30, still used the 539cc 2 stroke.
The 1982 SJ410 got a 1000cc 4 stroke. It was available in 2 door wagon, convertible, pickup or cab chassis
The 1984 SJ413 was a facelift model, a new dash and a new grille, the engine increased to 1300cc
In Australia and other export markets these second generation Jimnys were called the Suzuki Sierra, a badge engineered version was sold by Holden, the Holden Drover

Armand Peugeot produced his first prototype car as early as 1880 and in 1891 produced a batch of five cars each slightly different from the rest. He had been in contact with Gottlieb Daimler and Emile Levassor and formed a collaboration to produce cars with a Daimler patent engine, produced by Panhard Levassor under licence.
By 1895 he had decided to go his own way, tiring of the family firm he founded SA des Peugeot at uAdincourt in 1897 then in Paris from 1900. The new company produced 323 in 1899 and 500 in 1900. The light cars had rear mounted engines, while the heavier cars had their engines under the front seat. By 1902 the designs were modernised by Louis Delage, who remained with the company until 1905

I think most if not all of these were sold in the UK with 997cc engines, but in Japan they could be bought with a 539cc 3 cylinder unit to quality as a kei car.
Most surviving ones seem to be in orange, but this one was green,

Suzuki Alto 1984. Confusingly, the name 'Alto' was given to a commercial variant of the Suzuki Fronte (SS30/SS40) introduced in 1979. However, Suzuki decided to market the 'Fronte' as the 'Alto' in export markets. Produced as a Kei-class car, the diminutive Alto was launched with a 539cc 2-stroke engine, and later the option of 543cc or 796cc 3-cylinder sohc engines. Three and five door hatchbacks were offered, although the 'hatch' is only an opening rear window.
