This was one for 52frames. The theme was music. I don’t play much of anything anymore but I still get lost in music daily. I’m a ABC listener (anything but country).

Not one for selfies these days but I’m told it’s me and to suck it up. So here I am…this is my escape.

She's 8 and a figure skater. Or so we thought. In January of 2023, she joined girls under 9 hockey. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to be already travelling to her first tournament and seeing her actually win. She's one of the smallest out there but she plays with heart and those little legs can fly.

As much as it is all for fun, before every game she becomes silent as she waits to take the ice. This is her wait before the championship.

I don’t feel like taking photos at the moment, so I’ve been re-editing some that I took earlier this year (and some even older than that!). I hope that you’re all hanging in there. I’m thinking of you and sending warm wishes your way. ~

Week 29: Details

Okay, time for confessions. Not only we haven't returned Cari to the park yet, but he has two more friends from two months ago: Turbo and Babycari. Nor could it be said that they have a bad life since we take them for a walk on the park's lawn oftentimes, despite the look of our neighbors. They eat gourmet lettuce while we eat normal one despite my husband's comments. Even despite of your thoughts right now!! :))

Miguel proposed for the theme, the snails details. I told him that it seemed like a good idea but Cari had already taken part in the challenge, to which Miguel replied: I'm there many times and that's ok... no more questions, Your Honor. So with all of you... this week... Babycari on a sunflower on the park!

Please don't judge us.

Thank you so much Juan!

I am truly grateful with how this turned out!

It was my vision, and it came out perfectly! Exactly how I envisioned it!

Taken for my 52Frames.Com challenge - subject: distorted.

Hey guys! I've been sucked into the 52 frames project again this year and so far it's been awesome. At this rate. I don't see myself backing out at 14 weeks like last year. It's more active over on instagram than it is over here so I've been trying to post here also when I can. Some of you are participating and its been awesome interacting with yall and seeing your images there too! Have a fantastic weekend! I'll be catching up the best I can soon!

I love this image.. A submission for 52frames- Week 4 "Minimalist". But, this image will forever hold very intense/scary memories for me.

Health issues have been surrounding my every day. I am being careful, taking it easy.. and doing lots of praying (as well as asking for prayers).

I know I am more quiet on here, but I am active on 52frames. (I do one challenge per week). I typically try to submit those photos here, when I get time. I'm so behind on returning comments HERE & THERE.. but that's life I guess (I just cannot seem to catch up).

I could use some of your positive thoughts & prayers, if possible. They're much appreciated!

Like, I said before, I will explain all of this to you guys VERY SOON!

I decided that today I'm going to take a quick break from returning my comments in 52frames, to do some comments/visits over here on Flickr. I do miss you guys, I'm just so busy... And under a lot of stress.

I appreciate all of you.. And miss you!

I'm still here! So don't think I left ya'll!

MUCH LOVE,

Jessica

Week30: Negative Space

We are experiencing the hottest days of the entire summer 40º (104 ° F) in the shade, or what is the same, we are melting like Olaf in Frozen 😅

This week I took this photo totally on the go. We were going to the underground, Miguel wanted an ice cream, so we knew we had approximately one minute before the ice cream started to drip. It was the time it took us to cross the street and get to the underground. The stairs were so empty that they caught my attention. So while Miguel's taste buds were celebrating so much freshness I decided to freeze the moment with my camera. I wish you the coolest weekend you can have!! 😋

Photo taken last night.

Juan is a genius! He's such a great partner. He's the best!

He came at me last night *LIKE THIS* & said "Don't you need a photo for this week? Hurry take it!"

Genius! This man didn't even know the subject.. & this is straight up PERFECT

For 52frames this week- the subject was "BREAK THE RULES" Extra Credit being "Impressionist" So I did ICM.

Pretty perfect, I think.

& It 10000% fits my personal style! So yay!

Hoping and praying that all of my friends out there had a safe and happy NEW YEAR's EVE & that you all have a wonderful 2022!!

God bless you all!

Smile on Saturday - theme of February 22, 2020: One Word

Love and Peace !!

(two fridge magnets, gifts from my sister ♥ / each 3,5 cm in diameter)

... yes I know, probably the umpteenth 'love' today, but after the events of this week in my country this was the only word that came to my mind (and that I could photograph :))

Happy Smile on Saturday : )

Had a very busy week - trying to catch up ! :)

[Dies war mein Beitrag für 52Frames - Woche 17: Zart / Weich / Sanft]

52Frames week 6 / DPC week 5. Impressed I’ve made it so far! This weeks theme was also punctuated with far more procrastination and perfectionism than is possibly healthy. Ended up with far too many versions of this idea and then had trouble choosing. Finally got over myself and submitted, while more than crippled by self doubt. Oh the drama 😂😂

A re-edit of a photo I did earlier this year for 52Frames. It kind of goes with my previous upload “Love Letters.”

I hope you are feeling inspired and doing well. Wishing you good things this coming week and always. ~

52Frames Week 7 / DPC week 6

I can’t believe that I took this photo for 52Frames seven months ago! This year has been a blur.

Here’s the original text that went with this image:

Although I am not a Buddhist, Zen resonates with me. Since wabi-sabi is described as “the material representation of Zen Buddhism,” I loved thinking about and doing this assignment!

This is a dry oak leaf encased in ice. There is something so poetic about winter to me. We, and all living things, are most vulnerable in the winter. It’s a time of going inward. A time of contemplation. Sometimes, like for this leaf, it’s a time of death.

A lot of people complain about the colder months, but if you look closely (and are properly dressed for the cold), there’s beauty everywhere. As photographers, perhaps our greatest gift is to photograph things in a way that shows the true nature of something. It’s inner beauty. I hope that I’ve accomplished this here.

Week 6: Rule of Thirds

Love in all their infinite ways keep us alive and never goes unnoticed, even in a big and crowded city like mine ;)

Sometimes I look out the window at just the right time! I am considering using this photo for my weekly challenge in 52Frames. The challenge this week is Silhouette. Because of the mountains I rarely get a full on sunset here but I do get some great afterglow colors every now and then. :) The state is still recovering from the powerful storms that rolled through here night before last where I lost electrical power for 3 hours and still don't have a phone. There are still 40 people missing in Buchanan County which is a county we pass through on our way to church in Roanoke. Complete devastation! My heart goes out to those of you suffering the affects of the weather, be it floods or extreme heat and drought. Here's to a happier Autumn season!

I haven't updated in a long while, so I wanted to post a photo. This is actually an older upload.. (from Christmas Day) from week 52 - on 52frames. The subject was to combine at least 3 challenges from the year.

It would be a bonus IF you could also do the extra credits.

That week I combined much more than 3... I thought it was going to be hard, but after I took my photo- I realized it fit A LOT of challenges - amazingly enough!

I really LOVE this photo.

This is Juan. Yes, he's wearing a mask. He's looking through the bathroom window here, I was outside. All of the textures ARE REAL. I didn't add anything, I just switched it to black and white. What you're seeing is the screen, the reflection of the trees.. as well as the bathroom lights, cabinets, etc in the background. I thought it came out amazing! & A lot of other's from 52frames loved it too! I'm sure you guys will appreciate it.

Every week on 52frames, they give us a SUBJECT & then EXTRA CREDIT (*not required*) for our photo. Then we do with it, what we want... however, we want to interpret it etc.. So, for the challenge - we had to combine AT LEAST 3 of those + the extra credits. Below I listed all of the challenges + extra credits that I chose to do here.. & Then, Afterwords- I figured in some more challenges that this fit & added those below also... Truthfully, there is probably a bit more challenges that I could have added, but I wasn't going to go crazy.. I already did MORE than enough & impressed myself. I thought the challenge was going to be a lot harder than it was.. so I was grateful to get it done that week.. And I was super happy with the outcome.

I hope that you guys enjoyed this image.

I know that it's been A WHILE since I've posted & I do apologize. I've had A LOT going on. I could definitely USE SOME PRAYERS RIGHT NOW, FOR MY HEALTH PLEASE! I've been going through A LOT.. & I will **at a later date** elaborate and explain. But until then, if you don't mind.. PLEASE keep me in your prayers.

**& even if you do not pray, could you just send out some positive vibes/ thoughts PLEASE** - I will take anything I can get at this point.. And I know how powerful prayers/ thoughts/ energy/ good vibes can be.. AND I NEED THAT!

God has blessed me so much already. I just really need my health to be good.. and it hasn't been.

I miss you guys! I will TRY to upload more.. but I will never leave you guys.. and if I did ever plan to, believe me.. I would say something! SOOOO, keep in touch! I'm here!

Take care everyone. GOD BLESS YOU & I miss yas!

“Anyone who tells a lie has not a pure heart, and cannot make a good soup.”

—Ludwig van Beethoven

My little family says that I make the best soup, and I’m secretly very proud of this. (Not really a secret now that I’ve confessed it here to you!) Soup symbolizes many things to me—it has healing properties, it’s healthy and also very comforting. These pretty, blue soup bowls were a gift from someone special, and I love the colours. They remind me of one of my favourite things in this world: the sea.

I shot this for a new photography group I joined recently called a new group 52frames (they're on Facebook and Instagram). It’s basically a group where its members shoot photos of the same topic each week. I find this inspiring and it kind of forces me to go out and shoot more often. This week it’s all about the rule of thirds. Anyhow, we’ll see how it goes! This was shot on Aboiteau Beach, New Brunswick, Canada. 🇨🇦 You’re looking at the Northumberland Strait, a body of water between the provinces of New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island .

... literally: I had a really hard time to decide which image I should submit for 52Frames - week 8: Pairs

... so the dice made the race :)

I was not only looking for two similar objects, but above all for the contrast between black and white, because for me as a photographer black and white are a pair ♥

* * * * * * * * * * * * *

Week Nº3: Wabi-Sabi

I could only spend a little while on Sunday to this challenge ... So after eating with my best friends to celebrate a birthday of one of them, we went to a cafe.

My eyes laid 3 times on on this chair. I gave 3 steps to go there, count to 3 and took 3 shots of the shy Chair Nº3 :)

52Frames Week 9 / DPC week 8. Best I could do while tired this week!

I have been tempted to participate in the 52Frames challenge... Thanks!! ;)) My first thought was, no: I'm very busy, a challenge takes time... I don't have much time... But then I've thought, it's a very interesting challenge that I'm sure I learn a lot with it and it will make me be more aware of my surroundings and their possibilities. The worst thing that can happen... that maybe I can't finish it... well, is not the end of the world and all the pictures done has already a value for me.

I came now from the doctor, I have a fever, I have the flu. But from my bed I will think about my next photo for the challenge :)))

Week 1: self portrait. I had an absolutely different intention. We went to breakfast yesterday at one of my favorite places in the neighborhood. I intended to play with the reflections of the window, but an incredible sun came in and the light was very harsh. Then I saw that blind. It is not very focused, but in return, it is the best composed of the ones I took.

Posing Tip: Hold your face with your two hands and you'll get dragon nostrils :)) Have a great and healthy week!!

Thought I’d share some of my 52 frame images. I used this one for blur the action. I had a million ideas for the topic but ultimately my decision was determined by what time allowed. I couldn't escape during the day so at 8:30 one evening I loaded my kids into the car, bribed them with hot chocolate, and they sat and watched me wander out onto the wharf to try a few long exposures. I got about 4 images I liked but in the spirit of the topic, blur the action, I thought this worked best. The long exposure smoothes/blurs the moving ocean and all looks so calm. If only it lasted but being tucked between rock and ocean isn't always the most peaceful place to be.

My first artistic collaboration. Compositing and editing done by Keith Wobeser. You can see more of his amazing work at 52frames.com/photographer/5026.

Here's something a little different! I created this photo using two different photos and I did it for this group called 52Frames. The challenge last week was "Chaos". I am not a big photoshop user and have to google Everything. And then have to google again because I rarely use the features. The bottom photo was of the beautiful leaves on the ground of my Japanese Maple. In Photoshop, I added some soft white splats and then I used the twirl feature to give it movement. Over the top I superimposed another photo of a few leaves that were laying on my burgundy colored car. And there you have it... the Chaos of leaves in an abstract form! Have a fine day everyone! :)

Week 21: Symmetry

In Spanish the word "hoja" means leaf and page. So I wanted to play with both "hojas" put together and create symmetry using their middle lines, plus the one from the background. The book is open in a page from the tale "The Garden of Forking Paths" from one of my favorite writers Jorge Luis Borges.

Miguel asked me what was the theme for the week, I said "Symmetry" and that this time he was not in the frame. Then he asked "I'm I not enough symmetrical for you?" :D

I told him that he had an important mission: picking for me the most beautiful leaf from the street he could find in his walk with dad. So he was very happy accomplishing the mission and me too with his find ;)
