No luck with a Snowy Owl today so I am posting another photo taken this summer. Eared Grebe with chicks - I can never pass up these cuties!

Of all the waves caught on the coast, especially Big Sur, this image is the one that just "comes to life." It wasn't a rogue wave. The outcrops that made up the shore were in so many different positions that any wave was bound to build and comes crashing upward, forward, and outward. It took 30 minutes of waiting and shooting to come up with a favorite. It's not just another wave.
An absolutely mega slide...
A new addition to the (reducing in size) collection I received today: Class 24 no.5114 seen entering Invergordon on 10/08/72 with the 10:50 Inverness-Wick and Thurso, a shot taken around 3 weeks after I'd been born... And I'd say the slide has survived the years the better of the two of us !
The 24 had around 2 months left in traffic before withdrawal.

Again, I used a moderate telephoto setting (105 mm equivalent on a 35mm or full frame DSLR) to isolate the beauty in this quiet mountain stream. A wide angle lens did not work well for this subject.
Santa Fe SD40-2 "snoot" #5114 is the solo engine on a short #998 train, seen Eastbound near Cameron, CA in March of 1988.
The short lived 998 train ran from Richmond, CA to Los Angeles
