If I could to take one picture home with me from Musée d'Orsay, it would be Vincent van Gogh's self portrait from 1889.
Although it is a very familiar work, the impact of standing in front of the actual painting was quite a profound experience.
The intensity of his expression, the energy that emanates from it, I found quite incredible and there is no photo or print
that can replicate the energy that painting generates.
The rippled background creates an aura around his body - the picture screams 'tortured genius'. You can see places where he used his fingers to apply or move the paint - it feels like a very personal and intimate work. Just look at his expression!
The vibe isn't altogether good - it's not a happy or relaxed painting. I think 'intense' best describes this picture.
There was a crowd of people permanently in front of this picture - it draws you in like a magnet. Not sure you'd want to be alone in a room with it, you'd get no peace.
But this is my favorite for sure, and really brought home the value of seeing such works in person.
On 08-09-88 former Ribble Leyland Atlantean FBV 496W is showing the striking North Western livery at Mann Island Liverpool.
In Deutschland wird alles gezählt und inventarisiert, natürlich auch die Pfähle an der Staatsgrenze. Die № 511 steht in Lebus, am Ufer der Oder.
Bemerkenswert ist ferner, daß - dank deutscher Sparsamkeit in der Materialwahl - die deutschen Nationalfarben hier zu Schwarz/Rosa/Gold abgewandelt wurden.
