This shot taken of my Rose of Sharon tree in the front yard being invaded by a bee, the Flowers are heavy with pollen. the day was slightly overcast and a little dull when the sun popped out from behind a large cloud giving me the opportunity to take a few shots of these lovely blooms.

An Apple A Day...

The ubiquitous apple, a simple fruit that has so many varieties and flavors, there is nothing quite like a cold apple on hot day. and they are so pretty and you know what they say "an apple a day will keep the doctor away. "

Tis The Season.....

While playing my guitar this morning, I paused to make myself a cup of coffee. When I came back I noticed the reflection of the Christmas tree lights in my guitar top.

I had to capture the moment as it was magical. I love this time of year,

Beautiful Fall...

In mid November last year we went for an hour and half hike in Caledon.

The leaves were falling from the trees like rain from the sky. the road was awash in all colours and hues of leaves, the flitted and danced on the invisible breeze and glistened in the bright days sunlight. it was magical fall dance of colours.

At the top of the ridge overlooking the lake the contrast between the trees and the blue water set the leaves a blaze in the bright mornings sun.

Casting Shadows....

A little light can cast big shadows, especially when the night seems unending. This could be a metaphor for the past year....

in December I was playing with light and shadows. on my coffee table was a small ceramic dish; I set up a Speedlight to cast shadow until if found the perfect angle, this is the result..

In The Dim Light.....

I wanted to take a low key image of me playing my guitar... but taking the photo and playing the guitar at the same time proved to be a bigger challenge than i had imagined. i had a very specific look for the final image in my mind that required the light to fall across the guitar at just the perfect angle as to bring out the depth of grain in the wood. it had to fall off at the edges so the background did not become a distraction and i actually only wanted my hands in the final shot. getting all that right required help from my ever faithful assistant, my Artistic Director Karen.

Karen helps me so much during the entire process of taking my images; from pointing out things i may have missed... to saying "no that just isn't right" and "you can do better". she is always pushing my photos to the next level. thank you Karen for all that you do.

Grow, Grow, Grow ..

In the shade of the blue spruce, one of the new plants we planted this spring is flourishing. Watered every day and maybe a bit too much miracle grow,:) We want our new plants to fill out and fill up all the gaps in the garden.

This plant has such beautiful foliage, a rich tapestry of many varied colours and all with such rich texture. It really is going to be a wonderful addition to our oasis in the backyard. Our Garden of solitude.

Trumpet Creeper Vines...

Along the path near the park is a tree; which has been taken over by Trumpet Creeper Vines, at a glance you might think the tree is the source of the trumpets but upon closer inspection you would see a maple tree overwhelmed by the creeping vine. Bright red trumpets sticking out everywhere.

The Hands Of Time..

Just A close up of one of my watches, I love the artistry of details and the pain taken to get them right. i find wrist watches old and new to be fascinating; the artistry of the watch face is always something to be looked at with a discriminatingly eye, as they are all so individual.

Forks Of The Credit rd........

When driving down this road you just want to speed up and slide into all the curves, twists and turns on this fantastic drive through beautiful Caledon Ontario... but you had better not; as it is prone to accidents and the locals hate that type of behaviour...

the best way is; to take it easy and enjoy the scenery and the gorgeous sights along this 8 km winding road through the hills of Caledon,

Acoustic Visions....

My other favourite pastime is music; not just listening to my extensive music collection, but playing and recording music, either by myself or with friends.

I have acquired several instruments over time; but in the last few years i have gravitated to a softer more acoustic tone. my Taylor 426ce-ltd has been my instrument of choice. it has such a wonderful deep tone and resonates so beautifully that it often speaks to me in ways nothing else can,.

Put The Brakes On...

After a long Bike ride through the rough, rocky trails, at the ahlf way point in our ride we take a break and relax along the way before the return trip home.

We like this one spot on the trail that had an old cabin structure where we can lean up our bikes and spend a few minutes recouping and taking in the sights and sounds of the local conservation area. this is a shot of the front end of the bike and the disc brakes which make stopping in wet mud so much easier.

Low Flying Geese..

In mid November we went for an hour and half hike in Caledon.

Along this creak in Caledon the geese were gathering in small groups getting ready for their winter flight south. this small group flew right past me as i was taking a shot of the dried up reeds along the edge of the river.

Thistles...

The fields are thick with overgrowth, the constant heat and rare rain are a killer for most perennial and annual plants and especially lawns.... but the hardiest and most vigorous growth is always of the weed variety.

though i have to admit some of the wild flowers are stunning and thistles though they be a dangerous plant to tangle with, are among the most beautiful. the flower in its royal regalia and crowned with so many spikes, adorned with thick strong thorns. Is certainly one of the most popular plants to be found on royal crests, coats of arms and on family insignia. .

Hiding in my closet is my father-in-laws well used

Kodak Brownie 8mm Movie Camera, this little beauty took hundreds of hour of silent movies; most of them have failed the test of time and the video quality has given way to years of poor storage in unsealed tins.... forgotten in the basement for thirty five or forty years, sadly the footage of which has been lost to deterioration much like the old camera itself.

In The Falling Rain..

A sudden rain storm caught us gardening in the backyard,we we were busy planting a bunch of plants we had just picked up from the garden center. It was a sudden mad dash for the sliding door but it was already too late as we were already both quite wet:)

It didn';t last long and soon it was just a slight drizzle. I peaked my head out and the sun was flittering behind the clouds and there was this pale blue and golden glow in the sky. I snapped this photo of a few of the Geraniums we had just planted. I was quite happy with the result.

Show Off.....

The flowers in the backyard are finally starting to fill out and the colours are so rich and vibrant.

These dainty and very tiny little flowers are growing at an extraordinary rate, they are several inches above all the other flossers we planted this spring. They have these long stalks and have the tiniest little flower at the very top with no leaves. they are showing off how truly beautiful they are to the shame of all the other ground dwellers.

Karen took this photo and I edited out the background to make them stand out.

So High, I Could Touch The Sky...

Here is another one from my recent walk toi shoot some of the architecture in the Mississauga.

I do love modern architecture. These two towers caused quite a controversy when they were first built. Some loved them and some hated them. I am on the love them side of the equation. They have been called the Marilyn Munroe Towers due to its curvaceous, hourglass figure likened to actress Marilyn Monroe. Burka Varacalli Architects, a Toronto firm constructed the five tower complex , but they are actually called the Absolute World Towers.

Extinguished..

From the archives.

For photographers one of the challenges and pitfalls of photography, is the struggle to come up with new interesting content.

The struggle:

When, after many hours, having scoured my archives looking for those hidden gems and once found, having re-tweaked those old shots. Yet I still have not been as excited as when I am on the trail, hidden deep in the woods... or when in some new city or town and i take that shot, that I know will look great once edited.

The Challenge:

To stay fresh and to come up with new ideas, to push the proverbial envelope of my creativity, to find that image that takes my breath away the moment I press the shutter.

In May 2020 in my struggle, I was trying to take an interesting photo of a burning candle. I tried different lenses, getting close, changing the light even adding new backgrounds. Finally frustrated and really not feeling it. I packed up most of my toys and was ready to call it a night.

Karen, who is always my faithful assistant, walked over and blew out the candle. That is when it happened.... the light was dim and the smoke from the freshly extinguished candle rose up into the air and began it's magical dance. Soon the aroma of burnt candle filled the atmosphere; Just then I fired off two quick shots. Finally! vindicated... I rushed upstairs to my computer.. this was my final edit. I hope it was worth the struggle.

A Spoonful Of Wisdom...

Last September I did a bunch of knife, fork and spoon shots. This was one of them that I had taken but not posted until today.

It was one of those days where I was trapped inside due to rally bad weather and needed something to break the monotony of being home alone. I decided to spend a few hours with my grandmothers silverware set. Just trying to make something out of nothing

Look Up......

A walk through Mississauga along Burnhamthorpe; with all the new construction and the many new buildings that have cropped up, overtaking the skyline. It has been several years since we wondered around down there and a couple of times I had to look for familiar landmarks to get my bearings...

I do love modern architecture and this one caught my eye. The dark blue mirror glass exterior and the many r right angles seemed to reflect the sky darkly in its façade. I like the way the building almost blends into its surroundings without being too prominent.

I don't often go walking with my Nifty Fifty on my camera and usually shoot with one of the Nikon trinity. as the 50mm prime usually poses issues with having to 'zoom with my feet and I cant get a wide angle shot : which is the best way to shoot tall buildings. Also with this prime I sometimes end up in the middle of the street to get the building into the whole frame. that can be rather dangerous when there is so much traffic on the roads.

In April 2020 the Spring flowers were popping out of the ground .. Mums are always so pretty and a sure sign of spring.

Karen picks up a variety of colours for our garden every year. they are currently sitting inside the house as she is worried about a last frost. so i get to photograph them in the meantime.

Ant Invasion...

A invasion of ants at the local park, has them crawling over everything in sight... so it wasn't hard to capture them scurrying about looking for food.

Not sure what type of sustenance they will find on wild wheat grass but there they were, foraging about busy as bees! wait, not bees, ants. .

An Apple A Day...

The ubiquitous apple, a simple fruit that has so many varieties and flavors, there is nothing quite like a cold apple on hot day. and they are so pretty and you know what they say "an apple a day will keep the doctor away. "

Light Breaks Through….

A few weeks ago we went for an hour and half hike in Caledon.

Every now and then i want to challenge myself to try another lens. so i took my 50mm 1.4 today and spent the day shooting with it.

The leaves were falling from the trees like rain from the sky. the road was awash in all colours and hues of leaves, the flitted and danced on the invisible breeze and glistened in the bright days sunlight. it was magical fall dance of colours.

Urgency...

The streets of Mississauga are never quiet, this city is at its limits for growth the only way from here is up. and I mean skyscrapers. the wail of sirens echoed off the surrounding buildings, making a terrible ruckus.

Suddenly a firetruck came speeding by us. I quickly fired this shot .

When I got home I added a slight motion blur to give it a sense of Urgency....

Hands Of Time..

Just A close up of one of my watches, I love the artistry of details and the pain taken to get them right. i find wrist watches old and new to be fascinating; the artistry of the watch face is always something to be looked at with a discriminatingly eye, as they are all so individual.
